    Hey lads

I've a 15mth old charolais bull that I'm selling in a few weeks. He's inside on straw at the moment. Loads of caked on sh*t on his legs and underbelly.

What's the best way of cleaning him and removing this before the sale??

    All help appreciated

looks like you skimped on the straw. as spring arrives much of the caked on sh*t
will loosen and can be pulled off by hand. increase straw use in the meantime and get better acquainted with your bull.

jesus the caked on stuff can be very hard to shift with out taking a load of hair with it , are you selling him in a sales yard or just privately? is he used to being brushed and handled?

ya handling him every second day, no probs stick a halter on him in the pen. Have him walking, just first time selling in the ring and want him lookin his best.

Should I keep him in on straw? or let him out on a clean patch of ground? Also hair around his ears is sparse, prob from rubbin off barrier

The caked stuff is normal - no matter how much straw he is on. Its time for you to start washing him. You will need to wash him and brush him several times.

The caked St!t will need to be softened on him with water and gradually broken up and removed over a week or two. You can do this without damaging the hair if you are careful. You need to get specific shampoo for him too - this will help break up the sh1t.

Might be worth paying someone who knows what they are doing to groom and clip him - if you think it will make a difference to his price at the sale. Costs about €75 per animal around here.

Ya i've been curry combing him (top clean bit) since I started halter training him so he's used to being brushed.

I'I start scrubbing and washing him soon so. Was putting it off cos don't have a blower and don't really want to go buying one until I can justify the cost.

As for clipping, is it essential?? Was thinking of just combing out his topline flat and rear quarters.

What amount of meal should he be eating now? 10kg?
