I want to play football in Dublin.....

Okay, exactly what it says on the tin....

I'm 27 years old and have been living in Dublin for the last few years.

I haven't played football in a few years, and have never been involved in GAA in Dublin - though I have played a bit of soccer most years.

Basically what I want is to play a bit of ball this spring/summer.

To be honest I wouldn't be up to senior standard, so what I need is a good well organised Intermediate or Junior team. The standard needs to be low enough for me to get plenty of games - which might be tough as a complete "outsider", but high enough for it to be, as I've said, well organised and taken seriously by the other players and the club. I know what junior teams are like in some places, 13 players one game, next one called off, etc etc, so I want to avoid that sort of messing.

Anyway, bearing in mind that I live in Dublin 6, can anyone suggest a club that would be suitable? I don't really know anyone in Dublin who plays club football, so I guess a nice welcoming club with sound lads is what I need...

Any help would be greatly appreciated lads, oh and happy new year!

Ranelagh Gaels are football only I think. A most welcoming club by all accounts. Think they do their training in Bushy Park and UCD

    Hi Jack479,

Park Rangers a progressive and ambitious Junior Football club based in the Phoenix Park would like to invite new players to begin pre-season circuit training with us on the 18th of January. We also encourage lads that may be playing at home in their respective counties but living and working in Dublin to come and join us also.

Please note there will be a players meeting (old and new) in the Pale pub in Christchurch next Wednesday the 13th of January at 9 pm.

For more information please email: secretary.parkrangers.dublin@gaa.ie

Park Rangers are beginning their pre season programme on the 19th of January at 8pm, this involves 4 week boxing circuit, twice a week with a boxing coach before field work commences. If you or anyone else is interested in participating please come along to our team meeting at 9 pm in the Pale Bar Christchurch on Wednesday the 13th. All levels are welcome, we are participating in an invitational tournament in the Hague on the weekend of the 13th of March, which will be some craic!!

Park Rangers is a good club for you to join as we organise many events throughout the year and the banter between all the lads is great. We aim to be promoted this season and with this in mind we are taking our training very seriously. We are located in the Phoenix Park which is handy to get to.

You are more than welcome to attend our players meeting and ensure that the registration of our players is conducted properly. If you choose not to take up my offer then I would respectfully ask you not to post any adverse comments about our club.

So players who train with you midweek rather than travelling home will never be asked to play midweek league matches?

I am busy on Wednesday the 13th. I would also then have to commit to attending all your league games to ensure that only the players registered at this meeting play in matches. Your respectful request is declined. I value my freedom of speech more than your approval of what I say

    Yours in sport

    Jack,
More than welcome to train with the ranelagh gaels, we have more new lads than old lads out this year. You'll be hit with transfer sheet once you come out as most lads are transfers from the country anyway. the team is made up of lads from all over the country living and working in Dublin. Back trainig for the last few weeks now, check out the website for details of training.

If your around tomorrow there is a training match amongst ourselves in bushy park at 12, feel free to come along.
