Hello all, looking to see if anyone has encountered this.
Was away overnight on new years, and when I got back, the Sky+ box was in standby but would not turn on.I did the usual re-set of disconnecting all the connections and even left them all unplugged overnight, but to no avail. I will (try) and ring customer care on Monday, but I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this, and if the box is fubar'ed, or not??

    Thanks, in advance,
    Jimdagym.

    same as me
you got a bang of a flash i would say
I know mine did, as it tells me there is no satellite signal, also i will have to replace.
so this time i will get the rust proof dish instead of this mesh thing which lasts short time and ate with rust
I was just windering how much this will cost me, and would i be able to get sky plus at a good price anywhere

Thanks for the reply, but I dont think so, as I have multiroom, and the other box is fine. Its not sky+ though...

Ring them now or the morning I'm sure they open for people in trouble. Mine is always at the same but most of the time comes back when ya plug it out. Its more trouble than its worth sky cos I'm paying for sky plus and it wont record the programme unless I have it swithed on.

I had this problem recently. Asked the guy in a repair shop about it and he suggested plug the unit out and then press/hold the backup button when plugging back in until all the front lights come on.

This didn't work so he checked the box and found blown diodes which he fixed for €60.

    HTH.

Switched on or on stand-by? There is no sub on Sky+. It should record when on stand-by ( red light on )

Jimdagym, if one box is working and the other is not then it's not the dish. Have you checked all your connections at the back of the box / tv? Try plugging out the troublesome box from the mains for two mins, plug back in and leave on standby for 2 mins and then switch it back on.
If that doesn't work unplug the mains from the back of the box, press back up, plug the mains back in whiles still keeping the back up button pressed untill you see a message on the screen saying software update in progress. The update could take about ten mins.
Let us know how you get on.

I did the software update, no difference. The reset's have been done to death. When power goes to the busted box, i can hear a fan whirring, or it could be the hard-drive, not sure which, it just wont come out of stand-by. I knew it was not the dish, as the other box was working, i actually have the regular box downstairs now, just to be able to watch something...

How old is your contract with Sky? Was it done by Sky Direct or a local installer? You're living in Balbriggan yeah?

Got sky+ in may from a third party agent in Drogheda. We are in Balbriggan, yeah.

Brilliant. You're entitled to a free service call then or a free replacement if the box can not be fixed. Contact them and log the service call asap.

Just to close this off, got sorted today, spoke to a great sky tech support guy who went through a front of face re-set. In the circle of buttons you press and hold left and right untill the green sky plus circle lights up. Then press select on the unit twice. At this stage, the green sky plus circle should spin in reverse. Mine didnt, but after about ten minutes, I tried powering it up again, and it worked!.
I was told the re-set would wipe the hard drive, but everything appears to be there.
Thanks for all the replies folks.

I also lost sky this week, tried all of that, had to replace the busby attached to the dish, and am upgrading to sky +
