    Hi All

Does anyone know the HP of these in 2wd form?
Are they the equivelant of the 375 and the 390?
Is rust a problem with the cabs on these models?

    Thank you

    Here you go:

    http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/8/8/886-massey-ferguson-4255.html

Approximately: the 4255 was the replacement for the 390T , 4245 was replacement for the 390, 4235 replaced 375, 4225 replaced 365/362 but they were not exact replacements however as in some of the newer models the power output was different to the model they replaced.

there was a 4215 as well but they are rare.

Rust is not regarded to be a big problem with the 4200 series.

the 4200 series are an updated version of the 300 series and are a solid tractor .
there would be no problems with cab rust but the bonnets can be prone to it .
the only weak point is the clutch.

Thanks guys, that is the type of info I am looking for. I am on the trail of a 2wd tractor. The 4255 is probally too big, some more like the 4245 or 4235. Are they common in Ireland or indeed the U.K. in 2wd form? Spotted any for sale lately or even a good web site to look for ones for sale?

    Thanks again.

I'd say you'll find it difficult to source the larger model 4255 & 4245 in 2wd as I would say the majority of them would have been 4wd. The 4255 & 4245 would have been the more popular farmer models in the range as they would have been replacing the popular 390 & 390T from the 300 series mf's.
It might be easier to source the smaller 4225 & 4235 in 2wd as they would have been more popular untilities tractors for maintianing grassland etc and 4wd wouldn't have been required for this. Its not often you see any of the tractors in to 70 to 100 hp over the last 10-15 years in 2wd from any manufacturer.
Why do you need 2wd over 4wd. It its for manoverability i wouldn't be that bothered. We have a 4345 4wd a recent addition having never had 4wd before on the farm and I can't say we've had any problems with it around the yard and believe me we have plently of tight corners to get in and out of. 4wd a big advantage over 2wd if your putting a loader on for round bales etc.
You could try RVWPugh or emyrevans websites. They're Mf dealers in wales and see if they have any in stock. They usually have prices on their sites so it will give you price ranges.

Thanks for the info.I am doing the reserch for my dad who is in his mid 60's (old dog, new tricks etc). He has had mainly MF tractors all his life 135/165's. He currently has a 240 and a 675 2wd (which is advertised for sale) he has had it for 16years,he does not have a front loader and I doubt will ever have at this stage. The 675 just realy shifts bales of silage, cattle trailer, topping and not much more.
I would know more about a 30/40/50 year old tractor than the more modern ones.
I started looking at ads for 375's or 390's, the money I thought was high for 20 year old tractors, so I started looking a 4 series tractors and saw a few ads for them, a little more money than 375's and 10 years younger. Not many 4's in his area, I know the bonnets rust on the 4 series, but was unsure about the cabs, any one who knows about 675/690's etc, knows nice cabs, but rust rust rust.
Hopefully when the snow goes, and if the 675 sells, will look harder, I will be trying to convence him to buy a 4 series as 375's seem over priced to me.

Was in almost the exact same position myself 12 months ago before we purchased the 4345. The father 60 had a 265 and a 675 2wd excellent tractor but as you say rust a problem. The father had his heart set on a 390 or 390T but when we went looking the money for the 300 series masseys was madness when you consider it was a 15 - 20 year old tractor you were buying. Granted by all accounts they are an excellent machine but hard to justify that kind on money when the newer 4200 series are not making much more s/h and they have a lot more creature comforts. I looked at plenty 4200 & 4300's when we were shopping but didn't come accros any rust problems but then again most on the tractors were only 10 years old and its unlikely any of them would have gotten to that stage yet. Good look with ur shopping should be plently of dealers trying to move stock in the cuttent climate.

try 3000 seies much better value for money - yes rust but quite a few clean out there. they have electronic controls though which puts some people off but very comfortable. avoid 32 speed though.
