Hiding files and folders.

I'm using Windows 7 on a brand new Dell Inspiron (I don't know if that's even important?) . I wanted to encrypt a folder to make it viewable only by me (I'm using a personal account also) but it wouldn't let me so I set the folder to hide. That's all well and good but... now I can't find it :o

I feel so stupid but I can't find it anywhere, am I missing something really obvious?

Any one got any ideas where it is or how to un-hide it?

    Cheers

do a search and include hidden files and folders. Advanced search options

Ah, advanced search options was my downfall!

    Thank you!

Another quick question, do you have any idea why it won't let me encrypt them? The option is there but it's unavailable for me to select.

I haven't changed any settings, it's all still default. I looked it up online and used the help function and they give me perfect instructions, I'm just not allowed to select encrypt.

Dunno to be honest. I dont use windows 7, never bothered encrypting files meself. Maybe you have to be admin on the computer as opposed to user. Im sure someone who has a clue will help you out lol.

Yeah I'm the only admin on it.

    Thanks anyway! :)

You probably need Ultimate/Professional in order to use the folder encryption feature. MS are scabby like that.

    forget hiding folder's.

    http://www.truecrypt.org/

    this software is amazing.

basically, it creates a "new harddrive" on your computer using space from your usual harddrive.
when you want to access it, you open the software, select the letter of drive you want, e.g x drive, and then click mount. then you put in a password you create.
when your finished, you click unmount, and it disapears from view until you re-open, re-select a drive letter, and re-enter your password.

no one will ever know its there.

i use it to hide all my important files (porn :p) and its amazing.

    excellent.

just remember the file is stored on your main harddrive, so if you ever re-install windows/format your harddrive, you will loose the file which stores the partition.

so if you ever do, then just copy the file to a safe location, and you will be fine.
