Live Sound Engineering Courses?

    Hi.

I'm in north county Dublin and want to do some sort of live sound engineering course.

I've run the PA from the stage for my own band and I've become interested in doing it independently of my band.

Anyone out there know of a suitable course? It's live sound I'm interested in, not studio recording, though I suspect most courses will cover both?

    Thanks for any replies,

    Mark

Better off to make your services available to as many sound hire companies and acts as you can. Go networking.

Sound Hire companies and get into every live venue with an in house rig, but try not to get stuck in one place :)

Network with bands and remember your only remembered for your failures in this game and never how great it was ;)

Yeah the piece of paper means nothing. Just get out and look over someones shoulder for a day. You will have know more than sitting in a classroom for a year! :D

It would put you ahead of the pack if your learn electronics, and acoustics also.

Of course there's no reason why you couldn't do both and take the day off if you had a gig on.

As far as I can figure Temple lane are the only peeps who do a Live Sound specific course. You could also try giving the bigger companies a shout and see can you sit in on a few gigs. They always need humpers and the like.

A piece of paper wounld't help getting work but I think doing the course might give you a couple of new ideas in your work.

Having a van or access to one would be no bad thing either.

I think tomorrow it's open door in Pulse College at 6:30.

Does anyone know of the plug in day they are hosting in studio 1 of windmill lane? I was considering about going along but there's no details. Is it just a walk in event?

That was on Tuesday man, I'm afraid you've missed it.

Ah no way. I thought it was this morning. Good thing I decided not to go! Was it any use?

It was interesting alright. Some good insight into plug-ins, especially reverbs and Hardware vs. Software. A lot of fun recording the Steinway in the live room. Theres a thread in the Commercial Interaction forum, check that out for more info, I'm terrible at describing these things.
