Worth watching/Sky+ing for sure. Its got a full season in the States, so it should get a straight run through of all episodes on RTÉ.

What is it, some sort of Early Edition/ Tru Calling kinda thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭richy1

is it popular in the states

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The rough plot is as follows (all this is in the first episode, and is shown in the RTÉ ad, but I'll spoiler it anyway):
For 2 minutes and 17 seconds, the whole world blacks out and sees their future, which is about 6 months from date of blackout. An FBI team is created to determine what caused the flash forwards.

I don't even see the point of "IRL Discussion", TBH......it's boards.ie, and this programme is starting on RTE.......should be pretty self-evident.

Or, maybe, if it's being shown on a UK channel too, call it "Flash Forward on RTE"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

There is already a flash forward thread for the US airing (with 10 episodes worth of spoilers).

Watched the first 4 - 5 episodes.. meh!

Don't think I'm arsed in catching up!

The three main writers were involved in 24 and Star Trek http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0103804/ Blade Trilogy and the 2 new batman movies http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0333060/ and this is the 3rd persons first thing (according to IMDB) it's not even from the same network so I don't know where you got lost from of course there would probably be a much bigger hype around it if it was from the same people as Lost.

Well.. it is actually is from the same network. Both 'Lost' and 'Flash Forward' are on ABC.

Also, one or two cast members from 'Lost' pop up in it - but that's where the similarities start and end.

According to IMDB FlashFoward is on HBO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,198 ✭✭✭✭Basq

According to IMDB FlashFoward is on HBO
    It airs on ABC though..

Ahhh.. after a bit of googling, I found this! Turns out it was originally pitched to HBO.. but they passed on it and ABC took it with a more family-friendly approach.
FlashForward is one of the most anticipated series of the upcoming fall series, and not just for audiences. HBO is also wanting the show to succeed, even though the sci-fi drama will be airing on the Disney-owned ABC. Why is this?

Well, if you've read the script of the pilot episode of the series, you'll know that it's laden with profanities that couldn't be said on network television. Nudity is also included in the script, and it goes without saying that you won't be seeing of that on ABC either. That's because the script was originally written to be pitched to HBO, the pay-cable network known for adult-oriented fare such as True Blood and Hung. HBO passed on the series, however.

So why do they care if FlashForward crashes and burns? The answer to that is "chump insurance," (as the LA Times has named it) which HBO bought from FlashForward before allowing it to be passed on to other markets. "Chump insurance" sounds juvenille, but it's a rather smart notion in which a network buys a share in a show that they reject, just so that they can generate some profit if the show becomes a hit on another network.

When i first heard about this, i thought it sounded really interesting, but from what i've heard based on reviews from america is that it sort of has that "house"( not to say they were the first to do it) where there is a separate incident at the the start of every episode. i don't find this favorable.

seems to be worth a watch, gonna watch it on sky+ though. rte are advertising it massively so no doubt we will have advert breaks every 5 minutes!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,568 ✭✭✭thewools

i have watched the first 10 eps already - I loved them all...

Give it a chance anyways :)

In fairness, RTE isn't that bad when it comes to ad breaks, they usually only have 2 ad breaks in an hour-long show, even the big US imports (unlike TV3 & Sky who break 3 times).

Read the US "FF" thread....everyone liked the pilot, it fell apart....but the mid season finale was rather good, so two outta ten eps. were good. It's been earmarked for cancellation, it's ratings are low, lower then what is nesscary to justify renewal, it's an expensive show to make.

"From the creators that brought you Lost".

Well done on the English skills there RTE.

I would recommend checking it out. I felt a lot of the criticism it received was quite harsh although I concede at times there were too many 'filler' episodes. It also lacks characters that are as compelling as other shows, however the concept is great.

Not long to go, looking forward to it.

So convenient that they all had calenders in front of them during their flash forward.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 592 ✭✭✭Black Magic

This is a pretty boring show. Not going to get glued to it and have the need to watch it every week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

It's Lost all over again. Also why use the future as a plot device it's painfully obvious that basing your actions on what you'v seen will give you the exact same future you'v seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭cambridge7

I've seen the first five episodes of this in OZ. Its good. Give it a chance. It will give you the heebie geebies at times.;):D

Enjoyed the first two there tonight - there's a lot of potential.

Watchable I suppose, ya wouldn't be eagerly waiting next weeks installment. I had read nothing about it prior to tonight so any hype passed me by. I wasn't put off it either so I will tune in again to find out who this bad man is. Not surprised its earmarked for the chop though.

    I missed it unfortunately

Does anyone know if they will repeat it later in the week...even if it's at a later hour??

I like the idea of it.

    Esp like the whole
some not having a flash forward and wondering does that mean they will be dead soon

Suppose I can always use the college internet to watch it!
But probably won't if that's the case!

Im pretty sure I saw the fella who created Family Guy, Seth something, in the first episode. All in all, they first 2 episodes were'nt bad at all. When I first heard about the show I was hoping it would be a good replacement for Lost when it ends, but I cant really seeing that being the case. But it will be something to watch while I wait for S6 of Lost.

Ah now come on.... Desperate Housewives is back tonight, that should keep you ticking over until Lost comes back on our screens in February :D

Took me ages to see that Penny from lost (Desmonds wife) is the FED's wife in the show! She looks seriously hotter in this show, whoring around in her undies in her flash forward, highlight of the show for me really!

The actress who plays Olivia looks like a younger Linda Hamilton

How many times did this show have to tell us that for 2 mins and 17secs everyone fell asleep and saw 6 months into the future. and just in case you didn't know the saw 29 of April 2010.

I was okay but everything was spelled out to the audience as though they would forget what the main storyline is.

I will follow the series but IMO its looking like another LOST with shocking twists at the end of each episode "D. Gibbons is a very bad man", why would a child use the initial? (I am thinking this is the only question I should be asking).

I thought it was pretty good. I'd read the book before so I keep wondering if they're going to go the same overall plot as that or change it drastically. Some things match and some dont't so I'm looking forward (pardon the pun) to see how it works out.

I've a bit of an uneasy feeling that this will got he way of Lost and end every series with a load of questions and no answers until you final don't give a sh*t what happens to them.

To be fair.. I'd be very suprised if it got a second season.

I was surprised by this, I didn't expect it to be that good. I didn't like the whole 'D Gibbons' thing, was a little confusing. I'll tune in next week though.

Yep.. Seth MacFarlane (creator of 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad') is in the first episode.

He's not a recurring character though as far as I know.

Agreed.. all the acting talent in that family clearly went to Ralph Fiennes.

Decent show. Not awe-inspiring or life-changing....
How many times did this show have to tell us that for 2 mins and 17secs everyone fell asleep and saw 6 months into the future. and just in case you didn't know the saw 29 of April 2010.

I was okay but everything was spelled out to the audience as though they would forget what the main storyline is.

To further that point - they made it v v v v obvious that come April 29th 2010 - then thats kinda it.
So - in a weird way - when that date arrives in 4 months time = end of show = no season two :D

Obviously, obviously, if the ratings pick up - then they will spend another 4 seasons explaining the flash-forward, trying to catch the baddies, ensure it doesn't happen again - and, and other things that have not even entered the script-writers heads yet.....
Took me ages to see that Penny from lost (Desmonds wife) is the FED's wife in the show! She looks seriously hotter in this show, whoring around in her undies in her flash forward, highlight of the show for me really!

Completely agree - Penny / Olivia is impressive in this show.

What is it with the Blondes from Lost.
Blond doctor in Lost is now the Resistance to V in V (I've only seen one episode)
Blond - Penny is now in Flash Forward.
Has Lost become the trial show for actors to get other gigs?

Familiarity within the genre of Sci-Fi/Fantasy. However both actress look incredibly alike. I know it was one of the main aspects of Jack's Wife and Penny in Lost.
