Hi, just looking for general advice. I'm looking for a new mp3 player. I have a music collection of 130gb or so and the apple ipod classic 160gb appealed to me. Does anyone own this mp3 player? What's it like, is it any good? Or does anyone have any advice on alternative mp3 players?

    thanks in advance:)

I had the older 160gb classic and liked it very much. But then the touch won me over even though the storage space is still an issue!

Thanks for your response there. I have researched the internet for reviews for the ipod and some have said that there are issues with the volume in that the ipod is not all loud at times. Has anyone got any experiences in this regard? I intend to use my mp3 player for train journeys and walking to work only.

Bump!! Any apple ipod owners out there got any feedback for me regarding the reported volume issues with the Ipod Classic?

I had the 80gig classic for a long time and I never had a problem with the volume. A friend has the 160gig and he has never complained. I would recommend the classic to anyone looking for a large capacity mp3 player.
Keep the receipt just in case though.

thanks Dermo. Tbh in general the reviews of the Ipod Classic 160gb have been overwhelmingly positive. there was only a handful of websites that reported the volume issue, so I guess this is only a problem for a small group of very fickle people.

I'm gonna bite the bullet and get one!:)

    I've a 160gb classic (shows movies also)
Pros - lots of space - actually way too much! unless you fill it with movies.
I've a huge digital music collection - way way more than the ipod capicity, but you don't need to carry all your music around with you just cos you have it :-)
It's a lot of work to put so much music on the ipod, if you need to go get album covers, fix song titles etc.....
Cons - The screen seems a little small now compared to touch versions.
I actually ended up watching movies on the ipod more than listening to music (when commuting by train etc) and a bigger screen would have been nice.
Other considerations are apps etc, but perhaps others can comment on that.
So if I was starting out again, I'd probably stump for a large capacity touch just for the screen size over the large capacity storage of the classic

The other thing you should factor in is getting a decent pair of headphones over the apple suppled rubbish.

It is the benchmark in portable music players. To be honest if you have need for the storage then I think it is flawless. Highly recommended.

I have the IPOD classic - no issues at all, would highly recommend it, sound is excellent.

However I got mine is US and understand these are not volume limited (got wife and IPOD 8gb (Europe version) for xmas and cannot see too much difference in the volume levels so not sure how limited they really are.

Anyhow get a decent set of headphones to ensure that sufficient volume and quality reaches your ears.

My main con is lack of radio (but there is an attachment for that).
