I couldn't find another topic on this, so I hope it's okay to post it again,

just something I thought I'd ask about The Qualifiers,

The winner will go into Group C of the World Twenty20 2010 along with South Africa and India.
The runner-up will go into Group D of the World Twenty20 2010 along with West Indies and England,

would you think it be better for Ireland to come second and go in the group of the West Indies and England,

rather than South Africa and India,

it's probably a stupid thing to ask, just thought I'd bring it up,

and I thought generally when it came to qualifiers, the winning team would gain the easier draw?...

Ireland squad for the Intercontinental Cup clash with Afghanistan and the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers in UAE:

William Porterfield (capt), Andre Botha, Peter Connell, Alex Cusack, Phil Eaglestone, Trent Johnston, Gary Kidd, John Mooney, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien, Boyd Rankin, Andrew White, Gary Wilson.

Two players from the U-19 squad, George Dockrell and Paul Stirling will join the squad for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers

The match against Afghanistan will be held in Sri Lanka because of security concerns

    I thought the same Cremated.

I don't know how it is drawn but I would say the test nations are all put in an open draw with the associate places already assigned before the draw takes place. That's how it looks anyway.

There must be a financial gain for finishing in top spot in the qualifiers though.

On a seperate section there they had this about Central contracts,

The roster has been divided into three tiers. In the ‘B’ category, English county players, Niall O’Brien, William Porterfield and Boyd Rankin are joined by Andrew White. These players will receive financial assistance from Cricket Ireland while remaining under contract with their present employers. The five available ‘C’ category contracts have yet to be allocated and will be announced closer to the 2011 tournament.

So can these guys still go and play for England now?.

Six players have been awarded ‘A’ contracts: Trent Johnston, Alex Cusack, Andre Botha, Kevin O’Brien, John Mooney and Paul Stirling, and these guys are contracted to Ireland?,

or are they all now contracted to the Irish Team...

As far as I am aware the six A contracts are answerable primarily to Cricket Ireland. This is a big step as Stirling, who has a 3 year county contract with Middlesex, can only play for his club when he is not needed by his country. The opposite of what has happened before. However, Warren Deutrom has indicated that this may have to be reviewed if Stirling becomes a regular feature in the Middlesex team.

As for the 'B' grade contract, it is more financial assistance rather than a contract. The availability issues with the players are unlikely to change. If England come calling they can play. Which is a pity.

    Deutrom:

‘We will have first call on our six full-time players. ‘This is the way we would like to operate with all of our county professionals.

‘We have no idea how it is going to transpire with Paul should he become a regular fixture in the Middlesex team, but I hope it works out as well in reality as it does on paper.

‘Middlesex have been very co-operative with what we are trying to do.’
