Just a question from a male point of view.
How come women seem to remember dates and events
form years back. Even something i did 4 years ago,
i cant remember what i did 4 weeks ago!
Is it a gift only women have. Not looking to argue ladies,
always amazed by how far back you's can remember.

Women are more clued into time to start with, cycles and ageing being prime motivators. They will also remember things to which there is an emotional memory. Ask them to recite the periodic table of elements or the date they had their car services and i doubt youd think we had a superior memory to men.

Like the answer, never thought of it that way. My lovely wife remembers
everything about us meeting, dates and any other family relate
events, but i guess i faze out, but if its about cars, i go on and on.
    :D.

Its weird alright, how women can remember the minute details. About 4 years ago now, I went on a one week trip to Wexford with a mate of mine. I met a girl there and we spent the week together, mostly just me and her messing about. We were a couple for the week.

I hadn't heard from her for 4 years, then this year she sends me a text on my birthday saying happy birthday. How the f*ck did she remember?

Nahm they're not that good. My missus remembers nothing. She has two diary's to doodle stuff in, and she still forgets. I, on the other hand, seem to have that memory thing that you're on about.

well not to toot my own horn here* but i'm like what the OP described. it's not - for me anyways - that difficult to remember important dates, hell i can even remember dates i met certain people and dates of no significance. for example the day i met you was the 27th of november 2009.

i think the best way to describe it is i associate objects with people and events, for example blue wkd was what i associated with you and that night and i then associated that with the date and it just gets lodged in my grey matter. it's totally crazy and i do it without even thinking.

*EDIT* this isn't all roses though. for example i can be out and mention to someone - more often than not a girl - "ohh you remember that night we were out yadda yadda" they say "no" and i can say well "you were wearing x,y,z" (i associated that night with what they wore) which almost always freaks the person out.

    stupid brain.

    *toot toot

Yeah, guys can be like that too. Women are probably just more likely to admit to having these memories.

I have a wonderful long term memory. I remember all sorts of ridiculous things from years ago. I know all my primary school friends home phone numbers and birthdays etc.. My short term memory is absolotely shite though.

It's the other way round in my relationship, so much for generalisations.

Yep, I'm the same, I can remember mad things from years ago, and I remember the dates of my friends who I haven't seen in over a decade's birthdays but I forget what I was doing yesterday. Forget that I've already told someone something and then tell them again :o

lol...that is freaky...especially after four years! Did you reply? :D

I hang people's birthdays and phone numbers on the same peg in my brain as their name. i freak people out tough. sometimes i have to pretend not to remember things. i met a guy i knew when i lived in london and i remembered the registration of his car. i wasn't obsessed with him, it was just 'filed' in my brain. :-)

I remember all my friends birthdays, from primary school even. If I'm ever told their birthday, I remember it. It's like part of their name, the unsaid part. Does that make sense?! Maybe I'm a bit of an Aspie. :D

I have a strangely selective memory. No-one will play Trivial Pursuit with me after I unintentionally memorised most of the cards during a drunken game-fest weekend - but why did it take me three years to memorise my PIN? Or my mobile number? :o

Sorry Muckie, but it's not exclusively a woman thing. If you put the shoe on the other foot you've got me. Theres one ex in particular that had things down to an actual date, never mind a month / year.

But you have to admit, you're asking for a reason :pac:

I'm not so much a date and place type but I can place faces in a flash, be it in the street or on the screen. My other half calls me his own IMDB.

I remember passwords reaslly easily too :o

My memory is great. I remember christening.

I remember pretty much eveything someone tells me.

I usually pretend I don't remember when people retell their stoies about their holidays 3 yeats ago to avoid looking like a complete stalker.

I don't really understand why I can do this though & only once have I met someone with the same capactiy to remember trivia as myself.

I can remember stuff from 15 years ago, but I have to stop and think about what I was doing 15 minutes ago :o.

They say if you cross a woman she'll never forget it ,haven't crossed one yet so remains to be seen.

The ability to multitask is another trait that women have that blows my mind.
