    Ireland 2 - 2 America

It was a good match, but Ireland let the US back into it and conceeded a late equaliser.

    Gutted.

    She has a flippin bar.....

    GET ON THE PLANE!

Doesn't matter if the mate goes or not.
Work for Godmother, cash in hand.
Eventually get deported when caught working illegally.
Or marry American and get citizenship.

    Woooo!

A nation 10 trillion in debt and involved in 2 foreign wars. America is slowly going down the tubes. Canada, Australia even the UK would be a better bet.

    *Bangs head off wall*

    Go on, live a little!
Sure go over for a 2 or 3 months see how it goes.
    It's well worth it.

Then come back and pop over to the UK.

Go to Kinnegad, plenty of bar work there.

If that doesn't work out sure you could go to America,or Australia or Malaysia.

Don't rule out South Africa or the UAE.

With your qualifications you would have no problem at all.

So, a major personal decision that you need to make will be determined by the responses of anonymous internet posters?

I suggest that you stay with your mammy in Ireland.

What exactly are you basing these oppurtunities on? It's like Ireland, building industry is ****ed, cheap jobs are filled with foreign labour, only oppurtunity OP has is a barman and that's simply because of his connections.

People really need to realise everywhere is as ****ed as Ireland is, if not more.

So how long did you live in America?

OP: Definitely go for it. I know many people in Ireland who would kill for that chance. Watching the news today, the optimism is fairly high according to leading economists and commentators as indicators point to a substantial economic recovery in the States in 2010. I did not see much of a downturn where I live, and I would never trade my current quality of life for all the green grass in the world.

And you don't know how long Ireland will stay in its current mess.

Well when I say "opportunities", I mean the whole having the craic seeing the world kind of opportunities and the fact that his god mother owns a pub it's a good place to start from. As far as economic circumstances are America is not as bad as Ireland, in fact the only place worse than Ireland is Iceland.

There are plenty job to be got in America.
America has officially been out of the recession about...2 or 3 months?
They are calling out for all the influx of summer workers to come back this summer!

America is sooo flippin huge, the opportunities are endless.

If you're not working you should definitely go for it. If you're working then you'll have to weigh up your options I suppose. I know of a few people that lived there for a few years and they only had good things to say about the place. It makes it all the easier if you've got connections there too (especially a bar owner)..

    Slyest one ever man.

Go to Chicago. What have you got to lose? See how it goes. I lived in New York for a while myself and I'm sorry I came home. Chicago is a great town! You won't be pining for a stroll around Dalton Park or a night in Mojo's!

Doubt if you were ever in the country. You're a student; you've got a lot to learn. I'd recommend some 'real' world traveling for a while.

In May, or June, or July, or ...............?

But even with the chilling weather in the winter, there is still a better quality of life there.
