I can't believe it!! What is the story with RTE and the new year countdown? We had to watch the 2010 countdown on BBC1 !! Why was there no coverage on RTE1, RTE2. I am not happy seriously. WTF!!!

I was surprised too! Nice way to use the funds from the TV licence fees. The whole world is busy in welcoming the new year while RTE prefer to hibernate!

Yep, me too, watch Jools on BBC2. ****ing disgrace RTE had nothing, ****ing disgrace I had to watch the national station of another country to get a countdown

    **** RTE.

    An embarassment .
What arsehole thought up the idea of putting a talent show on to ring in the new year.
RTE obviously decided that they wouldnt even bother attempting anything decent.

They made some attempt at a count al right, but were ahead of all the other channels :D:D:D

Well, the ratings must have been ****e, so I'm taking some consolation from that. More Irish people watched BBC that RTE I'd say :D embarrassing

Was there no countdown at all. Did Gráinne not give it?

Did they? Missed it, thought there was no countdown at all. Would have liked a show like the BBC had in London, fireworks or something.

Jools is recorded so maybe his countdown is off!

It's not worth their money when most people are only going to switch over to the BBC anyways.

As a license fee payer i am happy they didn't even bother.

They did a countdown and then some guy sang Nesun Dorma.
The same ****e every year only smellier this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 155 ✭✭Beechman

Why can't RTE do a proper countdown and along with lottery money have an outside broadcast at say Christchurch with a DECENT fireworks display and a few bands etc.... It gets worse EVERY YEAR, a lot of people stayed at home tonight only to watch that crap on RTE.

Your just saying that!!! You can't be serious.

Paying all that money and our RTE acts like it never happened. Come on!! we expect more. Don't We??

I have to admit, I'm disappointed...not surprised, just disappointed.

To be honest I wouldn't have even dreamed of watching RTE for the countdown if I was staying at home. BBC is far better at pretty much everything (sports analysis excluded). RTE are a joke and always will be imo.

In fairness RTE make a balls of it every year, I don't want to watch some attention seeking no mark talk about how brilliant they thought last year was and then introduce some cringeworthy talent school kids/ some other attention whores/ plug their book or something

    Jools FTW!

Wasn't there a fireworkd display on the river liffy in dublin city center? I thought RTE might show that! I wasn't interested in their crap countdown anyway! But I thought there was a fireworks display or something of that sort!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

I did the Sky News thing.

    TBH it was totally crap.

I wanted to switch to BBC2 - but the missus took control and was afraid we'd miss it lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭Bodhisopha

Lol, do you really want to watch fireworks on tv?

RTE could have put on the cream of what Ireland has to offer, excluding everyone who hasn't already fukked off abroad, and i'd still not have watched it.

I don't need to see Tubridy, Twink, Dustin etc...

Its like the country is in recession and RTE said!! Don't get out of bed today, feck em all!!!

Oh forgot to mention at 12 o'clock 3e showed an ad for Guinness with fireworks and the sign over James' Gate being changed to say 1759-2010, with a man saying "Happy New Year from Guinness"

    Better than nothing! :pac:

That was shown live before the 9 news on RTÉ and was on as adverts all evening. Nothing special

If we can't go head to head with the UK like we do in sport we should decomission RTE and stay with TV3 or anyone else, I would have preferred to look at a burning fire at midnight what utter ****e, when we are down on our knees and economically finished as a country we need inovation, can be cheap can be chearful but we need to kick ass, tonight we left 1970's coffin watch death to us all Ireland.
