Why are RTE showing the same Mattie episode tonight that they showed on Christmas Day?

I think it was just such a masterclass in intelligent comedy that they needed to run it again for all the subtle philosophical elements we missed first time around.

Just saw this now, deplorable. Also lols @ the attempted sopranos type theme tune.

Well I must be philosophically backward because it all flew over my head:rolleyes:

My God, it was bad enough the first time.

Pat Shortt is a pure comic genius. The Irish equivalant of a British Spike Milligan

Pat Shortt is an enigma. Just look at his name. There are two ts on the end. Very deep.

Eh noticed that too and it wasn't good first time round :(

Easier to watch than a lot of the other crap on but still poor.

I think it was someone on boards who said this was like an adult Chucklevision. That is so right. (I actually like Chucklevision). But this programme is disappointing on so many levels. Where's the effort lads? It's so lazy. I can't imagine getting the chance to make a programme and then churning out a safe Chucklevision-by-numbers for farmers and the mentally ill.

What are you saying about farmers

They seem to think Pat Shortt is the Messiah, I don't know quite what that says about them, it's a matter of opinion..

always thought pat shortT stuff was over rated but this is utter tripe. It must give a great boost to up & coming writers and comedians that if this is the type of ****e that makes it.

One trick pony*. Appears to be a sacred cow* in the eyes of RTE programme commissoners.

Shortt has been making a mint for the last 15 years on the back of rural stereotypes. Fair play to him. though.

    *sorry about the agricultural puns.

So when is the second episode meant to be on? No sign of it in the RTÉ Player...

The opposite will be the case.

Impossible to fathom the thinking behind this, until one remembers Killinaskully.

A family comedy doesn't have to be without intelligence, or so I thought.

    Extraordinarily bad.

Almost makes Upwardly Mobile look good.

at the risk of being getting serious abuse... i thought tonights episode was fairly funny with him going undercover as a homeless person.

I fear it may have the opposite effect on comedy writers, as they get rejection after rejection while this **** get aired!!

Unfortunately the largest proportion of the population seem to love it, and i guess that is the bottom line for RTE.

I used not to mind Pat Shortt, and while this and Killinascully are awful tripe, I gave him the benefit of the doubt as I thought he was giving the people (whoever they are) what they wanted. However using the disabled as the butt of a joke as he did in the latest episode of Mattie was a truly awful moment in RTE "comedy". I hope he looked at the filming and decided comedy was no longer for him after it.

I have to say, I like it, I was expecting more as I thought Killinaskully was brilliant.

This isn't half as good, but I'll watch to the end as it's Pat Shortt and he'll come good in the end.
