It may not mean nothing to y'all.
But understand nothing was done for me,
So I don't plan on stopping at all,
    I want this **** forever.

I'm shutting **** down at the mall,
And telling every girl she the one for me,
And I ain't even planning to call.
    I want this **** forever.

Do we have any Drizzy Drake (recording artist) fans on Boards?

    He's a load of ****e

    I think hes great.

He's not trying to be a gangster, he was brought up in Canada, he just loves music. When he raps, hes up there with the best lyricists and he's up there with the best r'n'b when he does that. Women love his r'n'b, so he's a good conversation piece.

My favourite Drake verse is in Stunt Hard:

Really like him, and hes HUGE in the US, going to have a big 2010.

I really don't know what that has to do with anything, regarding Canadian rappers, there are so many more out there that have a whole lot more to offer rap than Drake.
This is one example, not new but still great.

sorry, but he's brutal and a clone of other mainstream chart rappers.
When he raps, hes up there with the best lyricists

no he's not, saying he's average is being kind to him. With that statement you're putting hime side by side with the likes of Talib Kweli, Pharoah Monch, Rakim, Kool G Rap, etc.
The only mc bursting onto the maintream that could come close is J. Cole.

Every single has been pretty bad imo but I have listened to a couple of his mixtapes now and he has potential. It'll be interesting to hear how his debut sounds. I'm not going to write him off just yet.

    Dont be. Thats your opinion.

    I really like J.Cole

Forums are about opinions, me saying he is up there with the best is my opinion, i really like what he does, i actually think hes getting lazy the more famous hes getting, but i like what he does with his words.

You dont like him, thats cool, i probably hate loads of stuff you love.
    colin29 wrote: »

Because Canada is not famous for its gangster rappers.

Ive never heard of that guy you posted the vid of, but that songs good, ill check him out.

Its not like im saying "OMG Drake iz way betta than every1" I like Drake, you think this guy is better, ill check him out. But it seems to me that on this forum anyone who gets any media exposure is branded as "mainstream" and dismissed by too many (not accusing you, just saying)

What is the relevance of gangster rap here?

From the brief bit i've heard of Drake, he's not the best rapper, but far from your worst. Seems a bit like any of the new school major label commercial artists, although with a nicer voicer and more mass appeal. Still, he's not half as bad as some others who made it big recently, and will probably make some very listenable songs (although they won't be anything too groundbreaking or inspirational).

Now, as for J. Cole, he could actually be something pretty good. The warm-up mixtape was brilliant, loved lights please. he seems creative, nice voice, nice flow, and is nice with a pen and paper. hopefully jay-z can give him the right promotion, without sacrificing his style too much (which he did very well with college drop out, which was a bit of a groundbreaker in terms of mainstream rap).

I came to the conclusion you guys are 30yr's + who have yet to realize 2pac is dead.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭BLITZ_Molloy

I like Rakim, Kool G Rap and the rest of them but they probably have their best days behind them. Seventh Seal had the most lifeless beats I've heard in years.

I haven't heard enough of Drake to really make a judgement. He's got a listenable voice at least, unlike Wale's which irritates the **** out of me.

Man it doesn't matter what age people are, I just turned 19, the reason I and alot of other people dont like Drake is because he offers nothing new, he's a poor mans Lil Wayne from what ive heard

When did anyone mention 2pac?? Their are plent of new emcees around that are better than Drake, J Cole for example.

People dont have something against Drake because hes young, its because he just isnt good, in my opinion anyway

Btw Drakes hook on forever isnt even his own, he bought the rights to the beat and hook from this track

Thats how I feel aswell, from what ive heard hes just media hype, his album might surprie me and Ill check it out, but for me theres out of new emcees that should be getting the attention that Drake is, especially Joell Ortiz

Btw Classified is another Rapper to add to that list, and Shad

I dunno about that, he wants this sh*t forever mayne.

Anyway, I really like Lil Wayne and Eminems verses on this track. I keep loading up the video on youtube and just skipping Drake and Kanye :)

Successful rapper not appreciated on Boards.ie hip hop forum shocker!

Pfft he's muck, you should to ....*lists group of rappers no-one has heard of and will never sell 1000 records*. This board is full of elitist garbage and rose-tinted nostalgia. Drake is pretty good, some nice verses last year, hopefully the album can build on all that momentum he's built up

    False, get your facts right.

From Kardinal's own mouth: "What had happened was the hook Drake had written the hook but the hook was never supposed to be for him to do."

If you like him fair enough, but when has anybody here said that they dont like him because hes successful?? Its the people who like Drake who are making these claims not the people who dont.
Jay Z, Eminem and 2pac, the 3 most successful rappers ever, get sh!t loads of love on here, as I said Drake imo is a poor mans Lil Wayne, sure he isnt even successful, outside of hip hop fans hardly anybody, if anybody knows of him.

how can he be sucessful without releasing an album yet? I just dont like him because he is pants, not because of his status.

Drake is quite popular in Canada and America, mostly amongst the people who listen to the Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears etc, he started out on a teenage soap opera here in Canada Called Degrassi The Next Generation. All the best to him, I just think he's crap.

    AND yet no album (:

I think he's OK, nothing special though. I'll reserve judgement until I hear his album (at the end of March hopefully...).

I've heard about two or three of his songs and he had already annoyed me with: "first name 'Greatest', last name 'Ever' ". Be quiet Drake.

Yeah I hope he does well for himself aswell, his debut album might be special, the EP that he released last year, for the most part, was a pop EP

Drake is a pop entertainer and that's a nice song IMO, nice production from Kanye - I think drivel is a bit extreme. I thought Over was pretty good (and less poppy) but wouldn't be the kind of lead single hit he needed - now he has it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

A severely over hyped artist that dosen't have the quality to back it up. "Over" was terrible with one of the worst hooks this year. He also had probably the worst verse on "Forever" as well.

The So Far Gone mixtape was very good IMO. He definitely has talent, though I agree the two songs from the album are far from his best work.

I think he is getting a little bit carried away with his own hype. He's decent but needs to put more work in.

Compared to the other up and comers, he's falling behind. The likes of J.Cole, Jay Electronica, BoB are alling pulling wahy ahead in their output.
And i'm not a fan of Drake's stuff so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

That's exactly what I mean by him needing to put in more work. Signing for Young Money seems to have been counter productive. The likes of Curren$y is far better than Drake and he'll probably never be anything other than a mix tape rapper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Liquidswords

Drake is trash, he can't sing or rap so it completely baffles me as to why he choose to pollute my eardrums with either.

''Last name ever, first name greatest''

So what he isn't a gangster rapper there's plenty of 'everyman' rappers that put him to shame.

    And G rap>>>Pop rap.

I do like Drakes stuff so far, so far gone was better than average.. but his latest song with alicia keys isnt his best by a long shot, fireworks i think its called

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

Just listened to Fireworks for the first time. Not bad at all IMO, I like the beat and Drakes flow. Havent heard the songs with Jay or Jeezy, waiting for the CD to listen to them all straight through.

People either like Drake or they don't. I do and I seriously doubt his album will disappoint. Take it for what it is.

Hmm. I quite like it, not up to his mixtapes and really needs a "Best I Ever Had" smash in there but it's still pretty good - especially Unforgettable
