there banned unless the site hold a licence, i believe paul from htra is the only airsoft site in the republic to have the licence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

As Puding said, the only way a site can have pyro is by holding a licence entitling them to do so, as far as I know, there is also a certain type of insurance needed, isn't there?
HRTA is the only Irish site where pyro can be used. A while ago he was offering training for other site owners so that they could apply for the licences. I prefer Thunder B's though, safer and cheaper after you get the initial set.

You can use them on site once you get a briefing, but only on the site.

Doesn't the site have to supply them though? As in you can't go up north and buy pyro, then use it down here?

    Thunder B's are rubbish

    Thunder B's are rubbish

interesting opinion have ya used em? and why as you say are they RUBBISH

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

    Thunder B's are rubbish
Why would that be? They're great, they distract the opposing team and eliminate them. They don't fire BB's or anything, but who cares? Just to quote AndyG have you used them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

But they never go off when you want them too, and then they just go off in your hand

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

Yea I have used them even lost them, I just think they are rubbish because you kinda waist your money when you could just buy a Tornado Grenade, They dont go off when they are suppost to and then they go off in your hand

    Someone's using the soundflash shells...
They only go off in your hand if you let go of the spoon and hold on to it...
Meh, Tornado grenades are over rated, far too much maintenance needed, the timer is unreliable aswell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

Nope I used the pineapples I still think that they are not worth the money you pump into them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

Are you tightening the shell enough?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

Yea I've tried all the tricks but still dont really work... You should really think of getting a Tornado Grenade they can be refilled and reused and you can set your timing, Much better than Thunder B's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

I can buy 3 Thunder B's for the price of one of those, and then barely have to maintain them. Tornado grenades have really bad timers.

yeah but tornadoes are about 100 quid delivered, the thunder bs are about 25 ish, mad grendaes usable at every skermish, saying that i still prefer my tornado but wouldn't call the thunder bs rubish just cuz i have a better one

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

Well you have your opinoin and I'll have mine I think Tornados are better nd you think Thunder B's are better, So lets just leave it at that

if the timing is bad with pineapple shells ya have the inner cylinder too tight loosen it off so its hand tight not hand extremely tight thats the problem with the timing either that or the co2 capsule is a bad one not filled to the right pressure

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,340 ✭✭✭deco nate

    no problem naked

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 Naked Nutcase

Well thanks but I got rid of my Thunder B's and replaced them with tornados

    Just to sum up:

Wrapping plumbers tape around all the screw bits (especially the shell), putting a one cent coin or a piece of paper in under the C02 canister, and scoring the shell all worked perfectly. Used 6 in a full days gaming today (or yesterday I should say technically) and not one of them misfired using the above techniques.

Thanks for the help lads :)

then you replied not so long after with this.
    This really worked thanks :)

now do forgive me for this but i smell something *sniff the air* ehem troll

Wouldn't call it a heated debate, more a discussion, where a fail troll intervened.
Long story short, Thunder B's are epic, buy them.

i bought thunder B's based on what everyone was saying and i've yet to have them work when i wanted it to work. g'damn.

the latest episode with thunder B's for me was last week when i threw it - didn't go off. stuck it in my grenade pocket. nearly 10 minutes later, it goes off and blew my entire pocket off while it was at it :)

i've tried a number of things mentioned above and will try some more. I donno why the coin, scoring or plumbers tape should be necessary, they should just work as is - out of the pack - its a bit gimmikey no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

I've only found the Soundflash shells to be like that. Those shells are thicker than the frag shells so they are louder. Scoring them just makes the timer shorter and lets them go off. If the grenade doesn't go off, leave it for a minute then pick it up and unscrew the shell. The gas will vent out and it won't explode in your pocket 10 minutes later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭Stonewolf

I've had a few issues but they're generally good and with one or two simple tricks (which are a 1 minute job) they're very reliable. I'd agree that picking one up and putting it in your pocket is a bad idea. Safe handling always, when one doesn't go off give it a minute or two and then unscrew the shell (as stated in the manual btw, you did read it right?).

My only big beef with them is the magical falling out pin >.>

The only other real issue is that despite being enormous they're easily lost in undergrowth but you'll get that with any grenade. I think at this stage having lost one if I had money I'd be considering picking up a compact metal detector just so I could go out in the field post game and look for it as it does have a good metal content.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

ya need to bend the big part of the pin out done it wont fall out :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭hitman_

If you bend the pins a good bit you can hang them off a carabiner ala the real thing, that way the pin is never lost, just pull the grenade (holding the spoon :D) . Works great, Thanks to Dobby for this tip.

I'm thinking of getting a few of the rubber grenades, the chinese ones to see what they are like, I prefer the idea that bbs fly out.

The thunder b's just make a noise right?

Correct; gimme flying BBs any day. However, people I know who've bought cheap Chinese gas-powered BB-spitting ones have had minor success with them maybe once or twice before they give up the ghost completely.

I'm a fan of the Tornado - I've found it reliable and robust and it actually hits people with BBs like is the point of airsoft, rather than providing a (admittedly damn loud) bang kill. Maintenance-wise it requires two drops of oil into a big hole after a day's play, and anyone who thinks that's too much frankly probably shouldn't own an airsoft gun either.
