Do you know if it is the multiregion version of the player?

Its a given fact that in 10month time blu-ray players will have dropped in price to near DVD levels, 50-60 euros, Don't waste your money. Prices have been kept high by the industry, but they are about to drop as they want to move to blu-ray 100% and drop the DVD all togethter.

Post 7 tells you how to make the DVD region free but mentions somewhere else in the thread it has to be physically modified for Blu-ray region free.....you will need a one for all remote to make it region free..." borrow " one from Argos?

Why wait 10 months, just to save €70?

Never did understand this way of thinking.

    Will that work for S360?

I disagree. DVDs are still selling well and many people still use standard-def TVs so blu is not essential for them.

This is why Disney and Fox are doing the combo packs: blu + dvd + digital copy in one box. To incentivise buying a Blu Ray player.

Streaming is the next big step but the bandwidth isn't there yet.

And finally, with 4 films, each costing at least €10 each to buy, you're technically paying only €95 for a decent quality blu-ray player/dvd-upscaler. That, to my mind, is a bargain.

folks what files will this blu ray player play ?

On Amazon UK the four Blu-rays amount to approx. €75, so the savings are very good when taking this into consideration.

Sony's own AVCHD formats, along with the standard photo-display. No divx/avi etc...

you dont get 4 blurays, you only get 3, star trek is now excluded

well at least i didnt get star trek when i bought it, and i rang another store which confirmed it was just slumdog, term salvation and angel and demons

You might want to take out Star Trek from your original post too; just to save any questions. ;)

On their homepage http://www.xtravision.ie/ in the banner (number 2) it lists 4 movies but not at this price.

thats because it was on offer up until christmas eve at 159.99 with the 4 bluerays, now that offer is over so its back to the 3 bluerays which are included inside the box and they reduced the price to 134.99

    :o

The Philips BDP3000 for £99.99 has BD live and works as a Divx player and it's also multi region. It's available from Richer Sounds and they do free delivery on most items for boardies. They have their own forum on boards here. They might do offers on other blu ray players for boardies if you ask nicely.

Will do mate but I have a feeling it will only be the 3.

    Whats the player like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

its a good player, can pcm or bitstream sound if you have a hd amp

its silent when operating on looks pretty good aswell

has a ps3 like menu system which makes things very easy to use

they are 99 sterling on places like amazon, so for 134.99e with 3 bluerays, its a decent enuf price

overall it gets good comments on avforums for a budget bluray player!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,821 ✭✭✭Skud

it costs 179.99 in hmv and 199.99 in harvey norman for the record. hn is usually expensive alright but hmv price shows its a good deal imo.
