Did one about 20 years ago.. 5 minute job just to make sure I was entitled to work in the UK.. nothing to worry about.

It's seriously no problem....just a very run of the mill interview to ensure you have the right to work there. You should receive the number about two weeks after. Just bring as much identification as you can and you'll be fine!

I had one a few months ago. They're fine. Just bring plenty of identification, both photo ID and something with your address on it, and a letter with the job offer if you have one. They'll make you fill out a couple of forms and that, but it seriously isn't a big deal at all. No tricky questions.

Do you need to prove that you've been paying council tax or that your a resident in the U.K?

after applying for the national insurance number how long does it take before they call u for a interview

I got one two years ago and I needed identification and a uk address for them to post it to when they issued the card.It took an age for the number to arrive (more than 5 weeks after the "interview") and another 3 weeks after that for a tax code for my employer to put me on.I rang up and got the number after 3 weeks but it was useless to me without the tax code.
The interview is nothing other than as people said making sure you're eligible to work in the uk.

As others have said - be sure to bring loads of ID , the interview is mainly for fraud-prevention purposes.

I see you say you've applied for a NI number? All I know is I rang up a number that our employer gave us and was given a time and location to be at the Job Centre, the appointment was around 3 weeks from the time of the phonecall.

It depends on how busy the local jobcentre is, it could be a week, it could be 4 weeks. I don't know about the process for UTRs but a standard PAYE employee can be paid without their national insurance number.
