Nissan Skylines Thread

Finally got my dream machine; a Nissan Skyline R34.

It's not the twin turbo one but the single turbo is fast enough :D

Here's a car show video of it and others. Mines the black one :)

A bit pricey on fuel (30 mpg) but a nice machine all the same.

    Strange music in that video.
Do you really get 30mpg on average (not some end to end motorway trip)? Much higher than I would have thought, yet you seem to have expected more?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

    Congrats.

Single turbo is a GTT, and RWD (yes/no)?

30mpg is good. I never got 30mpg out of my Integra.

It has a typical double din jap stereo in it, easily changed if its not your style.

It then has a turbo timer, essential for making sure the turbos are cooled down properly.

It also has gauges installed that are also essential for monitoring the state of the engine.

I can also see an Apexi controller which allows the manipulation of how much boost the car is using.

The inside may not be as pretty as you like but it all provides functionality that is more important in such a car than some pretty curved dash.

Its not like some piece of **** that has neons built into the dash or something

You are crossing functionality with aesthetics.
No one is saying it isnt functional and no one needs to hear the whole "but I only care about car's technical merits debate again". The only comment we were making is the outside looks pretty sweet (visually) and the interior looks pretty naff (visually). Functional, expected, doesnt bother the owners, whatever, its just an observation and it doesnt diminish from the fact its a Skyline afterall (ie a good thing).

I like to have my cake and eat it, there is absolutely no reason why good aesthetic or ergonomic interiors cannot be married with technical readouts, except the limits of interior designers imagination (or budget). This interior is fine but overshadowed by the rest of the package.

EDIT: Hmm, just remembed I actually put swirly LEDs into my interior, prolly not the one to be making this case.

what I was trying to say is I'd rather it was functional and ugly than done up to look like the inside of a spaceship.

I mistook your initial post to mean you thought the functional elements in the interior were what was wrong and not the way they were displayed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 Mini-E

I agree with both of the above, the interior is fuctional but a little bland, but no different that any other japanese car of the same year. Iv had so many japanese cars all the interiors are similar, a basic dash and steering wheel.

The skyline i have now is by far the best interior out of all iv owned, but that came at a very high £££:o

Ah no, I had similar boost and pressure guages in my S4, had to put them in myself though.

Sorry midnight man but I blot out reg plates for privacy matters and the fact I don't want criminals tracking down numberplates to houses and stealing skylines!

Just for you here's another pic though :)

    P1050282.jpg

Interior is fine for me. Some might like ultra chic and overblown interiors but spartan functional with a dash of chic does the trick for me with these machines...

You need to think like a criminal, not an IT nerd.
If I was going to steal a Skyline I would very simply go to a Jap Car meetup, do a bit a social engineering (ie talk to you) then follow you home and take it from there. Seeing your reg plate, in person or on some random forum, wouldnt really help much now would it?
When a seller sells a car in the US, not only do they show the Reg Plate, they also provide the Chassis Number (VIN). Trying to sell without a VIN and it raises red flags. Merely ask for the VIN from an Irish seller and they are liable to hang up and run to the Garda staton.

I dunno why you doubt it so much, granted they're no the most common car but it's not like he's saying he has an R35 GTR, like here's an R34 GTS-T for 8k.

    http://hiltonmotors.webzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201001196424655

I've driven by 3 R34's in the last 3 weeks, one of which was a blue GTR (could of been a Spec V but it was pretty dark)

I just can't believe it because of the video's and pictures posted.
The first video, as we are told, was held at Haigh Hall, and after some googling tell's me is in Wigan. Then I followed the video back to youtube, to Watch Ryders account, which tells us he's in Thailand?
That 'Squidoo' site is just an online blog of sorts and has no real truth/standing behind it, and at that it barely has anything about the OP's 'Skyline'.
Now this is where it gets fun, I also searched that site for skylineowners, and found out that GT-R you apparently own is a GT-T, as I suspected from the GT-T badge on the side, and no visible GT-R sign on the front grille nor any rear photos.
    And my evidence?
    Here you go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,620 ✭✭✭Graham_B18C

He never said it was a GTR, he said its a single turbo not a twin, look at the OP.

The single turbo is the GT T or GTS T. The twin turbo is a GTR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,727 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

Oh sorry, referred to the wrong poster, I saw Mini-E's reply about a GT-R screen thingy whatever.

Still, the car is in Wigan or somewhere else at least, whereas our OP is in Thailand apparently?

I agree, not on a sports car, but a tuned high performance car is a different matter. Gauges are really only a matter of safety for your car, if something is wrong you'll know about it and be able to prevent anything very nasty happening;)

@midnight_eg; holy moly your really looking into this, so much for the previous post "The nature of this forum means we have to take people at face value"

If I would of encountered such a nanny attitude from some of you folk I don't think I'd of bothered with such a thread here.

Did the Spanish Inquisition just get here or something?

Tell me what is the problem with having more than one thread about Skylines and also why I'm not allowed to travel around the UK with it or Asia for that matter?

Am I somehow bonded to IE forum and must keep everything here? That's not what life or the internet is about.
So I'll keep doing what I'm doing and the nay-sayers can just push off and get a life for all I'm concerned.

To the folk who've been supportive and provided vital feedback thanks. I'm getting the lens to a brilliant shape and will be inserting an aknowledgment module in shortly :)

Ok, back to the flow of things.
One thing I do want to eventually do with my Skyline is get a multi-function display.
Having the multi-clocks is cool and everything but the display is the way forward.
Getting these onto a GTT isn't easy but is doable by a specialist.
Are the multi-function displays on the GTR reliable or do they have any flaws or niggles etc?

    MakeThumbImage.aspx?ID=%2fPortals%2f0%2fimages%2fparts_images%2fNismo+GTR+MFD+Display+Main.jpg&PORTALID=0

    Cheers.

You have to admit that this car is not a new car for you as per the OP (if you own it at all you have had it since 2007-2008).....so why are you misleading boardsies, do you crave our attention? It asks me what else you are fibbing about...

    I declare Shenanigans

The MFD is a nice bit of kit, i keep mine on the main display which gives various readings(no gauges on screen), this includes boost, throttle, injector, oil temp, water temp, egt's and intake temp. Mine is a vspec so has egt's and intake temp as extra, non vspec wont have these. Also, the pic you posted is from a higher later spec gtr again, and would be available on cars such as nur spec gtr's. These has a higher boost reading and a few other extra bits, its available as an upgrade on any mfd from nismo but is quite expensive. I find the display most useful on trackdays as you can preset maximun limits with which will warn you once the limit is reached, eg; oil temp being the main one, but also handy to keep an eye on boost and egt's.

I also use my standard cd player through the mdf too which is cool, it also has a tv and sat nav, but both are japanese so dont work. It also has a shift light which can be preset to whatever (mine@8000rpm). All in its pretty cool but id imagine it would still be difficult enought to set up in another car, as dont forget you'll need all the sensors for everything aswell as the mfd itself, although it is possible as iv seen pics of them installed on r33's.
