Study skills....how can I focus?

Hi, sorry I really haven't a clue where to post this so if this forum is not appropriate, mods please feel free to move. I am trying to study for exams in Jan and I have one particular module which is giving me huge problems. No matter how much I try I just cannot take in anything as I find this topic so mundane. Really, I can study most things fine with discipline and just logging in the hours but this particular subject just makes me cringe to think about it.

I spend about an hour trying to read once single article and nothing seems to stick. Its is just a huge lack of interest in the subject that makes this so. I am now starting to really worry as I have a lot to lose by failing anything in January (money, summer plans abroad, pressure from home and myself to pass etc). I just need to try and focus on this topic as hard as I can and I have never struggled this much with focusing on a subject before.

I am no natural academic by any means but I can usually beat information in to my brain with just studying for hours and it seems to have gotten me by until now. I am worried that I am not going to be able to process this stuff and will just go in to the exam in January and fail it while passing everything else because I just can't focus on it. Has anybody got any recommendations or study skill tactics that have helped them over come anything similar in their studies?
    many thanks

I got straight firsts in all my exams, I once had a subject and it was exactly as you described it focused for hours and it just wouldn't stick.

What you need to do it break it down, don't just say I'll do 2 hours on Monday and 2 hours on Tuesday, you need to structure your study. Cover x number of topics per day no matter how long it takes.

Email the lecture and ask for an overview of the subject, you may already have one of these. Next ask for some sample and previous past papers. Next you should break up all the sample questions into the different topics. Take a topic at the start, read over it, then answer the sample questions.

By doing this for all the topics you are guaranteed a pass. If you are looking for a higher mark, I would recommend taking each topic and creating your own notes, by hand first, then type them out. This always helps me learn off each section.

You could also email some of your friends in class and organise a study session.

What subject is it in, I might be able to find you a tutor in it.
