Stephens Day and Bank Holiday in lieu

    I worked on Saturday (Stephens Day) and today (Bank Holiday in lieu), now standard practice is double day which I got for working Saturday. Am I entitled to get double pay for what I worked today?

    Also New Years Day, should it be standard or double pay?


    I'm part-time and have worked 80 - 85 hours this month since I started.

    id imagine youll get double pay for today and not for saturday, i think the bank holiday for saturday was switched to today. But if you worked saturday and not today, id imagine youd get the double pay also.

    No, he gets it for Saturday as that is the bank holiday and today is counted as a normal day.

    Well the manager counted Saturday as the double pay and not today question was moreso if it should be only one day that I get the double pay. Hope it stays with the Saturday as I worked an extra 2 hours so an extra €40 pay.:D

    Saturday is the public holiday, Monday was a normal working day. But most companies give the next working day off as the bank holiday. That was the Monday.

    Was wondering the same thing as i'm working New Year's Day.

    Looking at this
    It seems that if your have work 40 hours in the 5 weeks previous and you are working New Year's Day then you are entitled to one of the following

    * A paid day off within a month of the public holiday
    * An additional day of annual leave
    * An additional day's pay
    * The nearest church holiday to the public holiday as a paid day off


    I'm very open to correction though!:)

    I'l have days pay or even double pay would be nice, 7 hours = €127.16, not bad for doing feck all.:D

    If you are working in an area which works over 7 days then the premium pay is given on the actual day of the holiday - not the transferred day. Therefore, in those areas, those who worked on St Stephen's day will get double pay while those who worked on Monday 28th will be paid as per normal Monday.

    Standard premium rates on the day regardless of operating hours as it falls on a 'weekday'.

    I may have confused you with the term "standard premium payment". What I mean is that normal bank holiday extra pay will apply on Friday. If you are working, you should be getting double pay or a substantial increase in normal pay.

    (The holiday is not transferred to any other day as it falls between Monday and Friday).

    Ye it did confuse me, thanks for clarifying. Double pay, lovely job, makes going into work for 7 hours with the worst possible hangover bearable now.:D

    Eh... I'm confused!! If you don't work the public holiday (presuming you're entitled to it) you will still get a days pay right, or one of the alternatives.

    And if you do work it you get your ordinary days pay, plus the above days pay or one of the alternatives.

    So.... If I work a public holiday I'm not getting "double pay" for it, I'm just getting the same day's pay/day off/whatever as people who don't work it, plus my ordinary days wages????

    if you work the public/bank holiday you are entitled to at least basic rates.

    Also a cute note to watch. you have to have either worked a min 40 hours in the previous 5 weeks or have worked the same hours for that day for the previous 6 weeks to quailify for the entitlement.

    Employees who qualify will be entitled to either the public holiday off as paid leave or one of the following alternatives:

    A paid day off within a month of the public holiday
    An additional day of annual leave
    An additional day's pay
    The nearest church holiday to the public holiday as a paid day off

    a calculation is the hours worked for the previous 13 weeks and an average days hours are caclulated from this to give your entitlement hours.
