    Hi,

Flying Aer Lingus to ORD on Friday. According to some media reports the extra security measures on t/a flights include disabling the flight progress tracker. According to the Sunday Times this has meant that some airlines have had to disable their entire in-flight entertainment system:eek:

Can anyone tell me if Aer Lingus have had to disable the in-flight entertainment? Need to know if I should bring my copy of War and Peace!!

    Cheers

Also talk now of banning use of the toilets for the last hour of a flight. What a crock of ****. I'm sorry but all these "security" measures are meaningless. All of them are so easy to get around and do nothing to add to security. All they do is piss off passengers for no good reason.

Anyone that tries to stop my wife going the loo had better be ready to clean up. When a pregnant woman has to go, she has to go.

Just because that guy went to the bathroom close to landing they now ban you leaving your seat in the last hour?

He could just as easily done it half way and then what? No toilets from half way??

Travelers on incoming international flights said that during the final hour, attendants removed blankets, banned opening overhead bins, and told passengers to stay in their seats with their hands in plain sight.

    FFS...

The Moving Map can be switched off and the rest of the IFE system fully operational on BA / Rockwell Collins aircraft. I do not know what the situation will be on Panasonnic IFE systems / Aer Lingus but I cannot see any reason why Moving Map cannot be tured off on its own.

A pity as this feature is very popular with passengers. As far as I am aware flights to the USA will only be affected.

A guy got arrested as he visited the bathroom too many times yesterday. Turns out he was ill.

Thanks Foggy - that's reassuring - and makes sense.

Some of the rules are already being eased. Bear in mind they were only ever a temporary reaction to the events of the 25th.

In US Airspace you can get arrested as a "suspect terrorist" if you try to take a leak when the captain is out of the flight deck.

Time to bring your own potty on board. :D

Next security step is compulsory colostomy bag fitted for each passenger.

Ryan air will make a fortune charging £X per bag.....:D

On the RTE news this evening they discussed possibility of all passengers staying in seats for final hour of flight and limiting announcements as to where the plane was currently flying over along with additional body searches at airports.......as if waiting/ queuing periods weren't long enough as they were....!

As you say, I took the Ferry/ train to Euston last year and it was a breath of Fresh air compared to all the hassles at the airport along with no baggage restrictions.

This business of being strapped to your seat for an hour will put a lot of people off particularly short haul.

Ryanair must be having wet dreams about this.

Custom designed aircraft for short haul that you cant leave your seat.

Remove the toilets and add more seats :)

A lot of his flights are less than an hour so it would pay him to just have one jacks. :D

I would say he is pi**ed off at the restrictions of using electronic devices in the last hour which would include mobile phones.

"This is your captain speaking,we shall be taking off soon, the weather at our destination, which I cannot mention is very mild with a southerly breeze. Today we shall take off, I can't tell you which direction we shall be flying or indeed the flight time. We shall be flying over some interesting landmarks that again i cannot mention in advance. But I can tell you that at an indeterminate point in the flight I shall have to ask you all to take your seats and not access your hand luggage as the TSA feel that anyone could be a suspect. If the passenger beside behaves suspiciously please press the callbell and a member of the cabin staff shall approach cautiously using our onboard riot shields."

I'm told that Security drive SD 1544 09-06 must be implemented with immediate effect for flights to the US.

    Principle points

    Pat down search at gate

    hand luggage check at gate

    Aircraft passenger info disabled

All blankets pillows removed one hour before landing

Restricted passenger movement prior to landing (one hour)

    have a nice flight!!!!

Was in Dublin yesterday, queues weren't bad at all. There were quite a few delays though. We were only an hour delayed. The security checks were a bit more rigorous but it was done quickly and efficiently.

That said the airport was not at its busiest. Aer lingus check in was a shambles though. I would leave yourself plenty of time to get through, and put things like your watch, belt, mobile etc into your hand luggage prior to entering the airport. Will speed things up quite a bit for you.

    Recent news:

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has eased airline security rules that were put in place in the wake a foiled Christmas day terror plot, a source with knowledge of the rules said.

The TSA will now let pilots decide whether to allow passengers to keep items in their laps or require them to remain seated during portions of the flight, said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The TSA also will let pilots and airlines determine whether in-flight entertainment systems that show a plane's location should be turned off to avoid a security risk, the source said.

    (Reuters)

    Check it out.
