What moment, incident, person, place etc got you first involved and interested in the sport of boxing?

I would just like to know how some here became interested and became fans, casual or hard, it doesn't matter.

Me: I suppose my father always went to the Stadium to watch the Seniors and the Internationals and that is where I got involved, plus he always liked the game, pro and amateur.

Thats a very interesting and telling post f1dan. I always assumed that boxing fans would buy games like this but its interesting to think that ordinary guys can become boxing fans after getting a video game.

As for me - I never had a chance of escaping pugilism - my older brothers were boxers as was my father.

Bernard Dunne had me slightly interested for a while, then we got Sky and I watched PBF v Hatton, and that is where I became a big fan of the sport.:)

Great tales those. I wasn't factoring in games consoles as reasons at all.

Im very much a casual fan these days.

A combination of a lot of stuff the Legend of Ali (chat shows, documentaries, books, culture etc), the second half of Tyson's career, Carruth, those who Sky gave exposure to like Prince Naseem, Bruno, Lewis and that fortnightly Boxing Magazine which came with a video profiling boxers.

Come from boxing family , First stepped into a ring aged 7 , boxed under rules at 11 retired 23 , Never had a chance, born with the sport in my blood , Would find the Amateur Game my first love ,
But then when you see the likes of Jones , Hearns , Mayweather ,Pacman etc showing the Pro game at its best , one cannot but sit back and enjoy.

Earliest memories would be watching pro box on tv with my Dad.Think their used to be a show every Thursday or Friday night on ITV, usually from Bethnal Green, London 92 Olympics was huge for me, Francie Barret as well. During the nineties I was engrossed with Nunn, Watson, Benn, Eubank and of course Collins.

    I really hope so.

In saying that I dont think anyone could compete with ITV back in the day. And its funny that Dunne's name is mentioned. All boxing fans in Ireland need to recognise that, love him or hate him Bernard put boxing back on the map in these parts.

Grew up in the golden era of boxing watching Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hagler in their heyday. Still watch the dvds of some of their fights. Then when McGuigan was on the box it was a great era for boxing as he was a great and exciting fighter to watch for a couple of years.
