Im going to be studying in Austria for 5 months from the begining of Feb, and am just looking for suggestions on good places to visit while im there- as in surrounding countries and cities etc. Ive visited quite a few places around Austria itself aswell as the direct neighbouring countries such as Hungry (Budapest), Slovakia(Bratislava), few places in Germany( Hamburg and Berlin).

I have also been to Italy before but not for years, so basicly just looking for anyones input on where would be good places to visit for short breaks/weekends, that i suppose wouldnt be ridiculously far or time consuming by train..

    Any suggestions are welcome! :)

Berlin is a must see but spend more than two days there for sure. I was there for two weeks this summer and still didn't feel like I'd covered everything!

    Dresden is lovely.
Krakow is a must in that part of the world.

Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia are all worth long-weekends or day-trips with an overnight train.

Belgrade, Serbia is a terrific modern party city and there are there are a few sights around town. But shopping and clubbing is what many visitors do while they're there.

There are resort towns like Koper in Slovenia or the Istrian penisula in Croatia that are holiday destinations for Northern Europeans.
