Get yourself a HDMI cable, far easier to setup and use.

    Sorry for hi-jacking your thread!

Can anyone tell me exactly what a hdmi cable does?

I always here people going on about them but never know what they do!

What advantages or disadvantages do they have?

    Thanks

A HDMI cable is a cable used for running High Definition through your TV.

    It looks like this:

HDMI is new generation SCART. Only HDTVs and new laptop and PC have HDMI connections so if you have a standard TV you can't connect a HDMI cable to it.

basically HDMI will be used for next generation consoles PS3s, 360s, bluray players and upscale DVD players.

HDMI cables carry all the picture and sound in far higher quality than SCART cables can.

Get your hands on the HDMI asap. I had scart for a few days when I first got mine, then my HDMI arrived and the difference, obviously, was amazing.

If your PS3 is already set up, when you switch to HDMI, it'll go black for a few seconds and it will show the new settings and you'll instantly notice a better resolution, it'll then ask if you want to keep these new settings.

You just need to go into sound settings and set output to optical.

    easy

    Actually,this explains it better

hi keith, i have my ps3 sound goin thru my pionneer surround sound. i didnt use a optical lead. i have the surround sound connected to the tv with a scart. i just select TV output on surround sound system, and anything in the ps3 will play thru the surround sound. great for modern warfare! i know your not getting the true digital sound thru a scart but its still really good.

Also "wizardman" you can get the HDMI cables in Tesco, only about 3-4 euro, dont be fooled by this gold plated blah blah nonsense.

If I do that then ill lose the HDMI picture quality but thanks for reply

i didnt, leave the hdmi lead connected from ps3 to tv, so thats the hd picture. the hd sound goes to the tv from ps3 then from the tv to the sound system thru the scart. i have hdmi lead from ps3 to tv and a scart connecting tv and sound system. it work grand, ill buy a optical lead in the new yr but its fine like this for the moment
