    Hi

As RTE always seem to be late with their programmes (and I record Fair City every night) I selected to add 2 mins to start of recording and 4 mins to end of recording on the Sky box. But it doesnt seem to work.

eg Christmas Day, even though FC was programmes for 1 hour, my Sky recording was only 57 mins! So it seemed to DEDUCT time! And I missed the last 2 mins, had to tape the repeat next day.

Next day it was listed also for 1 hour, but the recording went 67 mins! Weird. But I had set it to record the next programme too just in case. Whats up with it?

More importantly whats up with RTE!!?? Its not random; on the weekly FC shows you can actually tell what ones are late / early! Yes, thats right, early. For some reason weds night, FC starts at 7.30. But its never 7.30; its ALWAYS 7.28 or 7.29. You could actually miss 2-3 scenes. End up having to tape Nationwide at 7. In all the modern technology we have. Its frustrating!

But on the main topic, SKY box should be able to get around that but isnt.

Very importantly, did you SAVE the new settings? On my HD box with the new EPG it's the green button, yours may be different. Also, if it's as bad as you say I would add more time to the beginning, like at least 5mins.

Should have mentioned that, sorry. Yes I did save it. Also it used to be on automatic, which never seemed to do anything.

Sky + certanly not perfect though; you could get a nasty shock if you taped a cup match and it went to extra time! The epg doesnt change in time I imagine.
    But RTE take the biscuit!

rte programs seemed to be 8 to 10 min out on the epg the other day. that was probably was the cause of it ..

Maybe so but its an actual regular thing with Fair City! Early on wednesdays and late some other days!

2 issues, RTE and the Sky Box -- why wont it add on the minutes to the recording, or how is that actually supposed to work?

lol, I gave up on this a long time ago OP, and just set my SKY+ box to 10 mins @ start & finish.
Seems to do the trick most of the time.

This problem is usually the fault of the tv channels though, rather than Sky. :D

Is it the only thing you are recording at that time, or are other programmes recording before or after? I often find when recording back to back 2 feeds and on different channels adding the extra time does not matter, as the box makes a decision to start recording the next programmes, and stop the existing.

You could be right there actually.... sometimes I may be recording something else on another channel. Maybe the +/- doesnt work in that case. that might be it.

If only rte/tv3 would start on time or at least within a minute. I wonder do they actually know that this affects the SKY recordings? If they had an epg that instantly updated when things over ran that would solve it. Very little chance of that I think!

Yes, well, of course that's the case, it can't record 2 things and let you watch a third all at the same time!

You should try planning your recordings a little better, I often take advantage of +1 channels to avoids such problems or make sure I am watching a recorded program when the overlap is about to occur, also don't forget if you leave the sky box on a different channel even if it is not being watched this will happen, always best to switch it off when not in use, then both tuners can be utilised properly.
