I know that this question must have been posted on here and pretty much everywhere else at least a million times since these two came out so sorry about that.

I have been thinking of getting a 360 for a few months now, and I was actually going to buy one in the next week or so but now I'm wondering if I should get the PS3 instead. So which one is better in your opinion and why. Thanks.

I have both and the answer is simple - PS3

Thanks, just read through it. Now I'm even more confused.

I have both and rarely use the PS3. Even considering trading it in for a Wii.

In terms of machine I think the PS3 is far better, it has a lot more than the xbox. You get blu ray, blue tooth and built in wireless.
For games I think the 360 has a lot more.
For multiplayer (family) fun I would go for the Wii.

    Thats my opinion anyway.

I would also like to add that if your a pc gamer, and using a console as a secondary machine , imo the PS3 complements a PC better. Has everything you need already , don't have to buy batteries for the pads or pay for an online fee.

Play most fps on PC and then stuff like demons souls, MGS4 , LBP, resi evil 5 loads of PSN titles and SF4 on my ps3, although I play sf4 on my pc too, it was on consoles months before it was on the PC, and that will probably happen when super sf4 is released too.

However another big factor really is what console your mates are using. Most of mine are on PS3.

Thanks a lot lads, love hearing different perspectives it helps a lot. I already have a wii but I want something for a little more serious gaming. I do a small bit of PC gaming nothing heavy as I have always preferred console gaming.

Price isn't really an issue cause when you add everything the 360 is the same if not more than the PS3. I don't really care for BluRay as I'm quite happy with the quality of DVD's. I've never done online gaming so I don't know if I need it or not, is there a free live trial with the xbox when you buy it? Everyone always says that xbox live is the superior online service but I have heard that is quite a lot of racism, sexism and such on there, is this true?. The reason I have been leaning towards the xbox is cause most of the exclusives I want to play are on that, i.e the GTA expansion packs and Halo where as the only one I really want to play on PS3 is Uncharted 2.

Answered your own question there. No point in buying a console just for one game.

I bought a PS3 because I knew more people who had a PS3....Sounds as good a reason as any imo.

PS3 if you want a media player - 360 if you want a games console and the better console online experience not to mention the superior controllers.

Better controllers for sure, but superior console experience? I dunno. Paying €50/yr to play multiplayer isn't superior. The interface is nice, but not much better/worse then the ps3's xmb.

It really comes down to game exclusives. Forza vs GT, Halo vs Killzone, Gears vs Uncharted, most other things are multi-plat anyway. Most of the originally-exclusive XBLA games have come to PS3, or are going to (trine, castle crashers etc.) so that's not an issue, but the PS3 does have more PSN titles like Fat Princess and Wipeout HD.

More bang for your buck with the PS3 since it has wifi built in and more options available (upgrade the HDD yourself, install linux etc.), all built into a similar price to the 360.

I only paid 24 euros for 13 months sub to live, ebay etc have tonnes of similar offers.

I feel its worth linking this to the OP
    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-modern-warfare-2-face-off?page=3

Plenty more compariosns on there and the 360 almost always fairs out better.
Any games ive tried on both console have looked better on the 360.
While the ps3 has a better cpu the 360 has a better gpu, someone forgot to tell sony most games nowadays benefit more from a gpu more than cpu :) or so the experts say :)

For the record im giving my honest opinion as an owner of both systems.
Both are fine systems, im a pc gamer at heart and prefer my gaming pc a hell of a lot more than either console but if i was restricted to a choice of a single console id go for the 360 everytime but thats just me :)
The PS3 is certainly worth a look with Uncharted 2,GT5 etc.

Thanks, I checked it out, very interesting. I'm going to try and pick one up tomorrow if the roads in Limerick aren't too bad.

Don't forget to think what's ahead when making your choice, I'm not sure about the XBox, but the PS3's getting MAG, Heavy Rain, GT5, and the fact that it's going to support 3D gaming and Blu-Ray with a firmware update in the future.

Project Natal is rumored for next Nov. and that is far more exciting to me on that list. Thanks though.

Project Natal is more exciting than GOW 3 of GT5?

Natal is gonna be a massive gimmick, the same as Sony's motion controller.

I'll ressurect this thread next december and ask you exactly how many millimetres of dust your natal camera has gathered since ya bought it ;)

I dunno some of the stuff at E3 was pretty impressive, it could be gimmicky, but I think it could be fantastic if used to it's full potential.

I'm probably not qualified to comment here as i have never owned an Xbox but if you refer to a post of mine from a few months back 'I think i love my PS3 more than my girlfriend' you'll see where i stand.
It's funny though, i have this, i suppose completly unfounded idea that Playstation is for serious gamers and the Xbox is it's copycat poorer brother.I have never had the urge to buy a box and don't think i ever will.
It also seems to me that Sony seem to have more of a long term plan than Microsoft do.Sony took their time and in my mind released a quality product.I think Microsoft rushed the release of the Xbox 360 and have had a hat full of problems one would associate with a rushed product. It just makes no sense whatsoever to me,to have to buy two sometimes three new consoles because the others have packed it in.Sure there are reports of the Ps3 having problems now,but thats what?three years after release. But if i have two consoles pack it in i'm not going to buy another.Whats that phrase once bitten twice shy.seriously it just boarders on stupidity going back two or three times to a broken product.
I suppose Microsoft will probably release the next gen console before Sony do again but i feel confident in saying I will have no desire to pick one up just like the last one.End Rant:)

The 360 has Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Crackdown 2 and Alan Wake.

3D Gaming unfortunately requires a brand new TV also. :(

As for Natal, personally I'm more excited about it's potential for passive use as well as the odd casual/fun gaming session. By passive use I mean it replacing the need for a remote and allowing more Minority Report-esque browsing of content on my TV.

    Here's my two cent's
I like the Xbox 360 more then the PS3, the PS3 has some pretty nice things on it to (BlueRay)

There more a less the same, apart from the one big thing, the Xbox/PS3 only game's

This, IMO is where the xbox comes through and makes it the top console

Yes the Xbox 360 does break, but so do PS3's so there isn't much of a diffrence in this part

Graphic's are the same, maybe the PS3 Is a little better i don't know, but whatever

Online, Xbox live costs 20-30Quid for 3 Months, nothing big, but it is annoing, PSN is free, but i think 360 is better still (Facebook, SkPlayer, DCL, ETC)

So IMO i think the 360 is a little better, But hey, that's just me right?

I went looking for a 360 today, smyths are doing a pretty good offer of a 360 and two games from modern warfare 2, forza 3, gears of war 2 and fifa 10. But they wouldn't sell me the bloody thing because all they had in stock was modern warfare 2. I went into Harvey Normans and theirs is an absolute rip off, so I walked out empty handed.

Can this be moved to the xbox forum?
OP has decided to get a 360.
