I was thinking of taking up the flute (no jokes please:pac:) and have some questions.

I already play piano to grade 8 level, and was wondering if it would take long to get to a decent level of mastery, and how much a new flute should cost.

    Many thanks.

I'm grade 3 flute and I love it. I would definitely go ahead and learn it, it's way easier than piano (I play piano) and takes less time to learn and play a piece. Because you can read music it would take less time and because you're in a high grade for piano, you have much more of an advantage with timing, sight reading etc. And you only have 'one' hand, you don't have to do the right hand then left hand and then join them. It took me about 1 year to learn the notes but I was in a class of 3. It can be done in about 6 months I'd say, one girl just never came so we had to go over everything we had already done. I did my grade 1 exam in about 8/9 months and then I skipped grade 2 and started grade 3 in September for my exam in February, covering both grades. Now I'm no genius at music but it is not hard at all.
I got my flute through my music school for 595 euro although you can get them cheaper. It wouldn't take you that long to be able to play pieces, theres loads of fingerings on the internet so you can just go and check if you don't know what a note is.

Seriously, go for it. I'm 14 and I love it! I'd say you wouldn't find it very hard either.
If you've any other questions just pm me.
