Hey all just looking for some advice. I have a Macbook (got it early this year its a Macbook 5,1 I believe) and i am purchasing a new tv and want to make sure i get one that can hook up to my Mac for watching movies etc. The tv I am looking at has both a HDMI slot and a VGA slot. Can anyone tell me what cables I might need and what would be the best option.

    Thanks!

If it's this one you can use this. Or this with a DVI/HDMI adapter. I use the latter solution to great effect.

Thanks for that- it's actually the earlier model Macbook (aluminum casing) but it has the mini DVI port too I think. Do I need an extension on those cables as they look rather short!!

    Thanks again

They are short as they are adapters, hdmi cables are normally long, they carry the signal furthest. The mini displayport goes into your macbook (alum) and then to the DVI/HDMI adapter and finally connect that to your telly with the HDMI cable and you're set. :)

You'll have to check positively to make sure but I think all the newer aluminium Macbooks have mini displayports as opposed to mini dvi sockets, in which case this'll do nicely for you -

with this you'll need a standard hdmi to hdmi cable which would cost from about €10 (Smyths Toystore) upwards.

Thanks CivilServant and Simon201. I did a check on the apple website ant my mac does indeed have a mini display port!

Anyone know what is required for audio?
