    Hi

Interested in converting from rim brakes to discs on my MTB and would like some advice. MTB was originally spec'd for discs but due to finances I down graded so I know frame is OK. I currently have Shimano Deore group which includes an integrated lever so I know I will have to replace these, but what about adding a disc to the wheel hub (Shimano Deore hubs) ?

    Any advice welcome

    Nollaig Shona:)

Looks like the hubs I have dont have the mounts for the discs, looks like there is a spacer there instead, can this be replaced? or are new wheels required?

New wheels I'd say-unfortunately.-unless something has changed since I last looked into it.

Merlin do kits incl wheels and brakes.

If you check their specials fairly often they have good one-off deals but they get snapped up quickly.

EDIT. Just noticed Merlin have extra 10% discount at checkout on orders over 100 sterling.

rim brakes apply their force at the top of the forks so very little leverage

disk / bub brakes put the stress at the bottom of the forks so lots of leverage relative to the frame

    are your forks suitable ?

There are several versions of Deore hubs. If yours have 6-bolt or centrelock fittings then you can attach a disc, otherwise you'll need new wheels.

Do yo have a pic of the hubs as that spacer thing sounds odd, maybe they will take disc's. Post a pic of the hubs if you can, take it from the non-drive side of the bike.
