What are your business goals for 2010?

Now that the turkey has been (partially) digested and you've begun to get sick of your family, your mind turns slowly to the year ahead.

What are your business goals for 2010? They might be very specific, with a month-by-month plan of how to achieve them, or a general "By next Christmas, it'd be brilliant if I'd..." ambition.

In anycase, it might be interesting to jot them down in this thread over the next few days, get some feedback and advice from other posters and refine them.

After all, if you start the New Year with a few aims noted somewhere, it might help you fulfil them.

To start things off, I have three general aims:

    1. to learn how to maximise the business potential of my new website and blog, and to properly commit to blog, tweet and other forms of electronic communication over the next year. (Site details in my profile)

    2. to increase referrals from one client to the next. For me, as a consultant, that's the point at which I know I've made it - when a client is so happy, they'll do my advertising for me.

    3. To get to Christmas 2010 solvent, with a good profile in the business community and happy with my first year being my own boss.

Your aims are complete and utter waffle. No specific goals or targets to hit.

Measure the performance of my website and blog. Hits -> Contacts -> Sales
Use SEO to increase the number of hits
Use good copy writing to increase the number of contacts
Use good salesmanship to increase sales

Ask each of my customers for a testimonial
Ask each of my customers if they know anyone who would benefit from my product r service

Sales targets for each week/month vs cost, so you know what you have to do to keep solvent
Improve customers relations management to keep a good professional profile
Join a networking group to raise your business profile
Get an article published in the papers/business journals relating to your business.

Thanks Ken but I did say they were very general broad aims for the year at the moment.

I'll develop these aims over the rest of the Christmas period and get some concrete ideas and some timetabled aims.

    1. To raise our Google ranking for two key phrases from page 2 to positions 1-3 on page 1.

    2. To increase turnover by 40%. Sounds optimistic, but I feel it is achievable after the 2009 we've had.
