Vaio notebook- cd rom question

Got a Vaio notebook from Santa (I don't actually like it but I guess I'm stuck with it since Santa buys early!) but I'm wondering about the lack of a CD rom drive on it. How do I install things that come with a CD or back up/copy photos or files? Can I buy an external drive- would these be expensive? Never had a notebook before so I'm confused by it now. :o

    Thanks. :)

Yes you can buy an external CD drive, my daughter has a note book, she loves it because it is so easy to carry around, but she's had to by a external cd drive, it cost around €50.

She also has an external hard drive that she uses for back ups, so she doesn't have to carry that around with her in case she loses it or it gets stolen.
