Whens it on?, it's a bit before my time and I've never seen it. Been mad to watch it the last few years but I always miss it when it's on.

You officially suck if you haven't seen it. It's on RTE now, I'd just leave it, it'll more than likely be on again over the next few days.

    Jimmy: God sent him.
    Jimmy's auld lad: What?
    Jimmy: God sent him.
    Jimmy's auld lad: On a fu*kin' Suzuki?!

Never seen it before, much to my own shame.

While I don't think its the "good (better) old days" I still think its a better representation to a humbler Ireland who could go through bad times with a bit of humour rather than the over eduacted up their own arses 3 cars and house extention society we have now.

The music makes the film, fookin amazing.

Very few films that are centred around music are any good, think it's only this and The Blues Brothers that work for me.

    That's guerilla with a u not an o.

    Absolutely lovin' it.

    Dubbalin in Panavision!

Great flashbacks: Old numberplates, fags in the boozer, those wrangler denim jackets with the 'leather collar', World Cup '90 window stickers, grandad and paisley shirts and that same old shaggin' trash!

Hang on a minute: Is it just me or were Joey The Lips and Tracey from Fair City seperated at birth?

Apparently he was busking with Bono on Grafton Street yesterday raising money for The Simon Community.

Bono is a wanker, Hansard definitely isn't.

He comes across as fairly down to earth.

Bus conductor with his ticket machine around his neck. Pound notes. 50p for a bag of chips.

YES!!! It's Tracey dressed up as Joey De Lips.

    World Cup '90 window stickers

Who were the stickers on his van anyway? Definitely McGrath and Quinn, maybe Stapelton and Houghton/Staunton?

    Hmmm...

    "I'm f****d if I know Terry!"

Good filum about dirty old dubbilin

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

We skipped the light fandango, turned cartwheels cross the floor. I was feeling kinda seasick, but the crowd called out for more.

That's very profound Jimmy, what does it mean?

    I'm f**ed if I know Terry.

    Haha, you're old.

Great film. Gives some fun images into what 'old' Dublin might have been like ... and may be again now that we're all broke.

I know! :D Its a pernicious film "oh we're poor and proud" guff. Still I guess Roddy Doyle was simple reflecting back the happy go lucky/smiling through the misery of the 80s, while wallowing in it.

"We're the blacks of...." moment is embarrassing to be honest. Superficially amusing but quite self-serving.

Music is the worst though, lumpy leaden Dooberlin r 'n b is as bad as it gets. That "de Commitments" somehow stumbled on in real life hawking that crap round makes it all the worse.
