What is a good power pack for jump starting? How much would a decent one cost. I think power pack is the right term.

    Thanks

Yeah there is no real good brand but remember you get what you pay for :) I have one here that cost 275 inc vat from my local motor factors and it still going strong after 2 years!! It starts on average 4-5 cars a week and never left me down plus it holds a decent charge too so you can swing and swing away till she decides to start!! I cant think of the make off hand but I will let you know. Ive had the cheaper 50 quid jobbies from aldi and the boot sales and they are pure and utter s hit e!!!! I had 3 in the corner of the garage that only lasted a few jump starts.

They saying goes: Buy cheap and pay twice, once for the cheap one and secondly for the better one you buy.. Buy the better one first and pay once :)

There was a group test of power packs in one of the car mags recently, it was either Car Mechanics or Practical Classics. Anyhow the two models that were rated best were by Clarke. One was more heavy duty than the other but both were way ahead of the sort of stuff you'd find in LIDL or Halfords. IIRC they were aroudn 100-150 quid sterling and were suitable for diesel engines up to about 4 litres and all petrol engines.
