Cheap upgrade to central locking?

Ok I have a 02 Corolla with an immobilizer but no central locking with the key ring button (probably a proper name for this).

I’m wondering what’s the cheapest way to get this upgraded to the central locking and key ring button?
I’m brutal at installing things, but have already paid a high price for the car so I don’t fancy another €200-300 on the alarm/central locking.

    Thanks in advance

Your car already has central locking but only on the key not with a key fob(remote)?

To clarify, base model Corollas have central locking, just not remote locking.

Meta and LaserLine do systems for remote central locking, lots of Corolla owners from 02-04 got it fitted. Will still be pretty much the same price as a basic alarm though.

You could go with something like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Car-Remote-Control-Keyless-Entry-Door-Lock-Locking-Kit_W0QQitemZ220529701275QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item335898319b

    or this

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/REMOTE-CENTRAL-LOCKING-UPGRADE-UNIVERSAL-KEYLESS-ENTRY_W0QQitemZ320466149666QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4a9d456122

    or this

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/REMOTE-CENTRAL-LOCKING-KIT-NOVA-CAVALIER-CALIBRA-CORSA_W0QQitemZ350295989591QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item518f449d57

Don't expect amazing quality or dependability though.

My old man had a 00 Corolla and it had remote central locking.

No sorry the car has central locking through the put the key in drivers door and that opens and closes it.

Confusing people with the fob, obviously thats with the central locking.

Thanks colm ill have a look now, its more the hassle of the key system and there one morning the lock froze and had to get the hot water to the key.

Take it then that there is motor in the drivers door?

I had a 99 punto before this and so did that, i was disappointed to see the corolla didn't, but sure you don't get the same when you change make/model etc

The Corolla got central locking as standard in 1997, then it got remote locking with double locking in 00, then they lost the remote and double locking in 2002 and went back to central locking, then in 2004 they got remote locking - they still have it, but bizzarely no double locking (except on the Auris)

Answers my question.... You will also need a motor for the drivers door so?

I think so, all i now is you put in the key and turn it and all the doors and boot open.

ronan, no motor required. all 4 doors have actuators. car just needs to have a module wired in.

This will be a whole load harder. don't even attempt it.

Maybe ring around a few places and see how much they quote you. it mightn't be as bad as you think. maybe ask them about fitting a kit you supply yourself.

I was thinking that, door inserts, hooking to batteries, a game of find the blown fuse it not careful.

Anyone got any recommendations of a place they have used or have heard good things about? Ive never seen car alarm fitters/sellers advertised in blanch.

I had an aftermarket kit put in a focus when the remote key was missing. Had it fitted by a phone kit installer for 120 squid. Had a separate remote to the key

I would stick with a brand name in case you need spares/parts. If you shop around you should still get them fairly cheap... eg I bought a brand new Sigma m4 on ebay for £30.

thanks for that jhmeg ill give it a try

ring a few more places. look in the golden pages or try a few forums like octane.ie or dtdirl. smaller outfits will probably be cheaper.

I'd also try a few auto electricians and see what they can come up with.

Why not get the number from EPM of the guy that did it for €120?

The way i read that it was that the key went missing and that it was put in after-wards to replace the old system that was already in place?

Yup, bought the car minus the remote key. Got another one made up but that wasn't a remote either so had the kit put in. Came with 2 fobs and worked a treat. Was completely separate to the existing unit in the car

So basically the 120 was for labor?

If you need a remote central locking fitted. you can get them fitted for 120
it's not an alarm just central locking and it comes with programmable fobs.
Which means should you loose the fobs you can get replacements programmed.

This is exactly what I need too, I have a Mitsubishi L200. Any ideas on where does it?
