Your Guitar's tone? - How does it sound?

I've always been wondering about the tone of my guitar and sometimes I feel it has great tone and at other times I feel it sounds a bit poor. I've only been playing guitar for about 2 1/2 months now so I amn't an expert on guitar (Yet) ;). Anyways I have an idea.
I've recorded myself playing a small section of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo child (The intro and a very small bit of the rhythm section) on my guitar and I had the idea to post it here. My idea is that anyone interested in this can record themselves playing the same section of the song on their guitars and we can compare the difference of tone between guitars. As in we post the description of the guitar (Body Wood, String gauge, brand, colour :D e.t.c.) and then an MP3 of the section. It would be a great way to see what affects the tone of a guitar.
This MP3 would have it played first completely clean. No effects whatsoever, no equalizer, no reverb. Absolutely nothing but a raw guitar signal and then the second section of the mp3 can be with any effects you so choose.

    I'll start with mine

    Description:
Its a Fender Strat replica. Made in China as far as I know but it appears to be a solid nice guitar (From what I know about guitars anyway ;))
    Body: Maple
    Neck/Fretb. : Maple/Rosewood
String Gauge: 0.009 (Thats just a guess, I haven't changed the strings since I've bought the guitar yet)
Pickups: 3 Single coil pickups wired to a 5 way switch
    Tremolo: Typical Strat tremolo

All in all its basically a Strat. Nothing too fancy about it.

The MP3 (Does anyone have a better alternative to rapidshare?) Edit: mp3upload.ca seems to be better
    http://rapidshare.com/files/325029795/Voodoo_Child_-_Strat_rep.zip.html
    http://mp3upload.ca/files/22600/voodoo_child__strat_rep

I know there is a few mistakes in the clean guitar playing but as I said I've only been playing for 2 and a half months but remember people its the tone we're interested in, not the playing :D

Even within the setting you've described here, there are so many variables. What pickup(s) are you using? How do you have your volume and tone knobs set? What amp are you using? How is the amp setup? Is the amp miced or DIed? What sort of mic/interface are you using? How is your recording setup? Etc...

Cool idea, but there are still so many other things coming into the equation. For accurate results, I think you'd need to use the same mic, interface, amp, settings etc.

But I'll try to record myself tomorrow :)

    Forgotten all of that!!!
The pickups are stock and seeing my guitar was probably made in china I will guess they are your typical ebay single coils which usually don't vary in quality or tone. Volume at maximum, both tones at 5. I used the neck pickup. No amplifier. It was hooked up directly to my computer for recording the clean and I used Amplitube for the effects in the second half.

It would be fairly easy for anyone to set up a system like that. The MP3's first half should be just a raw guitar signal, straight from the jack on your guitar to the jack on your pc/recording device. Nothing at all inbetween. The second half with effects is up to you though! I personally used a sequencer with Amplitube to model an amp. I recorded the MP3 in one take. I simply set it to record and in the middle I just turned on the amp modeller and equalizer e.t.c.

Basically in short, the mp3 should be in 2 sections. The first section is a completely raw guitar signal with no processing of any kind using the pickup closest to the neck, the second section can be processed in any way you like and with any pickup config you like.

Just to let you know this isn't limited to only strats!

i have a Yamaha fg 336 from the late 80s i think, it was my dads and has now been polished up, had the action lowerd, intonation sorted and gets a fresh set of D'Addario EXP's every 2 to 3 weeks. It has the brightest and warmest tone ive heard in a long time, it comes to par with 4k Taylors and Maton's.
I will post a recording at some stage

    Such as?

Everything. In this case everything is a variable.

A large part of your tone comes from your fingers anyway. If I played through your rig I would still sound different to you, even playing the same piece. The same goes for most players.

Your guitar is yours only as your fingers are yours only. Lets think of them as being one piece for this little experiment.

Every guitar will sound different, If I get two stratocasters made by the same manufacturer on the same line they will still sound slightly different. I know that but this isn't meant to be completely accurate anyway.
