Wiimote takes two standard AA batteries.

The wii motion plus doesn't take batteries

As the lads said, 2 AA batteries per Wii remote. I think the best thing is to get a pack of duracell for christmas day and a set of recharable batteries and a charger. Energizer do a fairly cheapish decent one you'll spot in any big supermarket (i.e. dunnes) or hardware (woodies).

If you get rechargable batteries, make sure they're rated 2500 or so, as anything less will just not last.

Or you can get rechargeable battery packs made for the Wii. If you can't get those then just regular AA batteries are what you need. Although I'd definitely recommend getting some form of rechargeable battery as regular ones will run out fast enough depending on usage which will be high on Christmas day :P
