Practically Free Itunes vouchers (Ignore, seems it is wrong)

I read somewhere a while back that Tesco were doing Itunes vouchers for less than face value?

Anyway I popped in to get some for presents and scanned them at the scanner before going to the checkout. Imagine my surprise when they scanned at €0.001 or something like that.
It is not even 1c so at the checkout, they scan as €0.00 :D

Since Tesco have a policy of giving stuff away for free if the scan price does not match the advertised price then it seems perfectly acceptable to me ;)
They do not actually have a price on them, just the Itunes credit value on the pack which we know Tesco were charging less for previously.

I am not sure where the law stands on it but as far as I am concerned I scanned every item I purchased and paid the total. If some items scan for €0 then it is not my fault and it is not up to me to let Tesco know they are under charging.

Tesco Clearwater (finglas) is where I was but check out the other stores to see. Just use one of the scanners on the wall.

The reason they scanned at this value is because you actually have to get them topped up at the till. Until that point the cards are not loaded with any money so have no value.

Ah... I thought there might be catch.

They did not say anything like that on them, just to scratch them off and enter the code.
    Ah well....

I believe it says it on the stand, although I'm sure the sign could have gone missing. Otherwise people would just put them in their pockets and walk out :).

Yes it makes sense and I thought it might be the case but the lack of signage meant I did not know, then I found saw that you have to scratch the back to get your code so I thought (wrongly) that it was a mistake on Tesco's part.

Not your fault really, it's not obvious you have to load them at all! I'm sure it'll make a fun Christmas day for people who have 5 €20 vouchers loaded with nothing for their new iPods :)

I edited the title so people do not get excited :D

So now I have to go and top up the ones I want.

Bit harsh it was an honest mistake and the title is edited to reflect this.

Here's something to watch out for with the 'dumbest bargain alert ever'. A while back it was 'get a 25 euro voucher for 20' in Tesco. I scanned it in along with about a tenner's worth of other goodies. Now it scanned in as 1c and is as useful as a chocolate teapot (maybe I can use my 'zombie' iTunes card to scrape the ice off my windscreen!) but it nevertheless deducted 5 euro off my bill... Sweet! Not sure if this still works though.

What would happen if you tried to scan the iTunes vouchers at a self-service checkout? It wouldn't expect you to add the credit yourself, would it?

They don't go through the self scan tills, seems only check out ops can do it
