Data use on PS3 hard disk

    I have a 40GB PS3.

It seems to have only about 17GB free space. I have very few game saves (probably 30 or 40MB worth) and no video or audio on it.

Does the OS really take up 20GB+? Or am I missing something? Any tips for freeing up space?

I don't want to replace it, I have an external HDD with all my media on it... so I'm not looking for more space, just wondering if the 20GB+ in use is correct... ?

Apparently you will have the option to save data in a cloud soon enough with the new Premium PSN I don't think the OS needs that amount of space.

Its not the game saves taking up the space.
Game data or installs take up a large amount of space aswell as space reserved for the PS3 OS, swap file usage.

If you have "Home" installed that could be taking up a load of space also
