Nutrition for Overseas Marathons

For those of you who have completed overseas marathons how have you managed with bringing your nutrition through airport security checks? For example if you are trying to bring Powerade or Perpetuem powders & gels etc. is it feasible to get these items through security as hand luggage?

Or will checking in luggage overcome this dilemma?

    Thanks

Don't try taking powdered stuff as hand luggage, unless you want to start a major security alert.

Powerade you'll struggle with because it's in 500ml bottles and the max you can take through is 1 litre in containers no larger than 100ml. You can get Powerade in the shops at the other side of security and in most countries.

You'll have no issue with the gels as they are less than 100ml - just stick them in the plastic bag.

I've taken powders through with no problem at all and actually never thought about it - that was Dublin airport. I'd say it'd be a bit stricter in London (they once took my mates liquor chocolates off him in Stansted).

I've not had any problems getting gels through before, but I have far more interesting things in my bags for them to get nervous about when going through security.

I've taken tons of gels both into and out of the country in hand luggage without a problem. I've taken isostar powder (or equivalent) in hold luggage too. Bloody thing burst open on one occasion

+1. I've taken gels through in my toiletries bag. I've brought powders too. I double bag the powder in a freezer bag and suck the air out..... nothing worse than powerade coated shorts!
