    Further bad news....

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/6936.php

Played a stormer on Sunday and was coming back into form. This is a downer for Munster and Ireland.

Anyone know if Nick Williams is fully fit yet?

Has to be the unluckiest Rugby player for the last few years, anytime he gets a bit of form together he gets injured.

This is really shi`t news. He was brilliant on Sunday. It's really no surprise that he got injured though the way he played. I'm really gutted for him.

Nick Williams is fit as far as i know but he just fell out of favour with Tony McGahan.

God, I feel for him, really unlucky with injuries.

Apparently, Nick Williams once stormed out of training.

That is a sickener, with the display on Sunday, he was really putting it up to Heaslip for a 6 nations place, Nick Williams seems to be a temperamental player in every way.

Bad news def. Gutted for the man.Thats the game though.Wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery, as Barnes said he was our only forward with an immediate future being the 'thrusting' side of 30 but as we know he could have 6 or 7 more good years so top class care now will be good for him and all Munster supporters.

Other long term injuries have given players their opportunity in the past.

A back row of Wallace at No8, Quinlan/Ryan sharing No6 and Ronan at No7 gives me hope that not all is lost yet.

I don't think anyone will be displacing Heaslip (nominated player of the year) any time soon. Leamy's most likely position in an Irish shirt would have been at 6 or on the bench.

While I wouldn't have had him on the bench during the AI it is a big blow to Irish and Munster rugby, especially in light of recent performances.

That's a real shame. On his day he is a great player.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

    It's true.

Leamy's a great talent, but he shouldn't be anywhere near the jersey yet.

His injuries now are keeping him from putting together any proper form to actually compete.

    What are you talking about.

The jersey he currently he has, is the place where he will be mostly missed.

Irish jersey he doesnt have, is incidental.

The loss is Munsters and thats all at this point.

He is out for 6 months so the loss is Ireland's loss as well.

If you read what Sangre said you will see that he was responding to a statement that Leamy was putting it up to Heaslip for the 6 nations.

You have to feel sorry for him, bad news for Ireland a lot worse for Munster though!

This is awful news for Munster he had a stormer the other day and is an important individual.

Sean O Brien or Chris Henry for the bench possibly for the 6N.

Based off current performances and how they seem to be viewed by the Irish management, if he keeps up his work rate its Seanie.

Jennings coming back into fold in New Year may complicate things slightly for O Brien.

I don't think it is a big blow for Ireland.

Jennings, SOB, Best and Henry are all quality players.

in my opinion sean ob is way ahead of jennings. as long as wallace heaslip and ferris stay fit were fine,

muldoon is in very good form at the moment, he might get a look in,

Ferris is very injury prone - it was great to spring Leamy (with his 30+ caps) off the bench against Wales when Ferris got injured.

Really sorry for Leamy (& Munster) as he will probably also miss the tour to the SH and really screw up his involvement for the RWC as 6 months is a long time. Leamy's versatility will be seriously missed for Ireland.

Jennings is a far better player at 7 as things stand, though Sean O'Brien could well overtake him in the next couple of years. Arguably better at 7 than Wallace.

Sean O'Brien is a versatile back row player though, as is Wallace. Either of them could do a great job at 6, 7 or 8.

I'd personally prefer to see Ferris, Jennings, Heaslip starting for the 6N, with Wallace on the bench.

Back on topic, this injury is a huge loss to Munster & a big loss to Ireland. From an Ireland point of view, Ferris is a touch injury prone, and Leamy is justifiably the next in line for blindside.

Jennings would be more of an out and out 7 than O'Brien. Ireland haven't had someone in that mold playing for them in a long time, and at times, it could be very handy.

In what way? They are both completely different kinds of openside. SOB is more a dynamic and powerful runner who carries well and links well and Jennings is a breakdown specialist who wins turnovers, slows down possession and is all around annoyance to play against. It depends on your game plan as to who is better man for the job. SOB is definitely not "way ahead" of Jennings.

terrible news for Leamy, his performance last sunday was the best i've seen him play for a few years, he had finally had a run of games and then this happens.
    here's to a quick recovery

I think Jennings is over-rated on the deck. I think I'd prefer to keep the current Leinster backrow, even when Jennings is back. I know Scarlets were poor but Leinster's work on the ground was phenomenal; not just stealing but pure aggressive turnovers as well.

That is terrible news,Leamy was my favourite player a few years back and seemed to be the future of Ireland until his dip in form the last 2 seasons, its been hard watching him lately but last week he did great,i hope he can bounce back from this.It is not good news for Munster.
Regarding the Irish set up,we have incredible strength and depth in the back row.

Jennings doesn't offer the same cover from 6-8 as Leamy does when he is fit and in form though!

Big big loss to Munster and to Ireland, his performance last Sunday was one of the reasons we won that game so convincingly.

Best Wishes Denis and hopefully a speedy recovery to rugby.

Massive blow for both Munster and Ireland.

Leamy was coming into great form and whilst he wouldn't have started for Ireland he was pretty much guaranteed a bench spot. And someone of his experience and doggedness coming on for the last 20 mins. would wreak havoc.

SOB is catching a lot of breaks this season and is performing well, he's surely in pole position, though as said above, the return of Jennings could hamper his chances slightly.

Gutted for the guy big time. Class game on Sunday and really showed a different style of game to Heaslip that could be utilized for Ireland hammering and taunting opposition packs.

Not the end of the world though, Munster at the moment have Ryan, Ronan, & Williams, not forgetting a few of the A side who are performing well also. For Ireland again not so much of a direct blow with Heaslip playing the way he is, its hard to see anyone else in the No.8 position.

On the matter of Jennings I always thought he should have been in the Irish side, on the bench or front line cause he again is another class act. But with SOB it shows what raw talent the guy has and prep for the WC may come into play in Kidneys mind!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

If SOB keeps going the way he is he'll be soon undroppable for Leinster and I reckon we'll see him on the bench for Ireland. I actually think it would be interesting to see him start a 6N game, against Italy maybe. I think Ferris/SOB/Heaslip would have an excellent dynamic to it.

Anyway that's off topic, best of luck to Leamy

Heard about this on the radio in the car, shocking news.
2009 can also be remembered for the amount of injuries at both International and provincial level in Ireland.

    International level?

Ireland has probably the best injury record of all the top tier international sides.

We had no injuries during the 6 Nations.
