    That looks like a very old B747 -100 F or similar ..... maybe I don't know anything

    But no winglets , only 3 windows ' upstairs ' .

I thought the same tbh, but according to the blurb they are only building freighter versions at the moment, passenger version slated for 2011.

But yeah, i was thinking 747-100/200 myself..

Wasn't the -300 series the first with the stretched upper deck?

yep .... the -300 was the first one

    -100 had only 3 windows ( or maybe 4 ) upstairs
    -200 had about 10
-300 the hump stretched about half way down
    -400 has winglets

Looking at the engine pod, the design looks similar to the 787's. Either that or its just testing engines for the 787 like the A340 did for the A380.

Am I right in thinking that the 747-8 is only available with GE engines because GE paid for a big chunk of the development.

From what I gather, that is one of the reasons a lot of airlines have opted for the A380. That and the fact that the 747 is essentially a very old plane that they are just trying to breath new life into.

    It is the 747-8.
    But no winglets

It will have raked wingtips instead of winglets

So raked wingtips seem like the new thing.
B777 already has them. B787, B747-8 and A350 will have them as well. Airbus have tested winglets for the A320,will be availible from 2012,(I read that they will be called Sharklets as they are angled back like a sharks dorsal fin)

Can smaller aircraft (B737, A320) accept raked wingtips or are they just suited to larger wings?
