Gone Baby Gone - What would you do?

Just finished watching Gone Baby Gone, a fantastic film by all accounts. Towards the end of the film there is a moral decision to be made.... (Spoiler Alert follows!) If you dont want to know the end of the movie, then dont read the following.
Basically, a child is kidnapped from her mother. Her mother is an alcoholic, drug taking (and occasional drug trafficing) serial dater who often leaves the child alone, doesnt care for her like a mother should and lives in appalling conditions. The child is pretty quiet and miserable at home. The kidnapper, however, is a wealthy ex-policeman who lives in a nice house in the country, who along with his wife, care enormously for the child and give her everything she wants. She is not held by force in the house, and is allowed do her own thing. The child is genuinely happy with this family.

In the film, a private detective finds the child and must decide whether to call the police, or leave the child with the kidnapper. What would you do?

Afflecks character was spot on in doing what he done. If i remember correctly his bird was a geebag about it at the end too.

Much like any classic film involving dogs you place the child in between the kidnapper and the parent. Then the two proceed to call the child to them. Whomever the child runs to is declared the winner and the matter is settled henceforth. (Cue uplifting music and cheering)

For dogs its always whoever smeared their hands with bacon fat...wonder would that work for children too :pac:

I dont think I would have to think two seconds about the decision, give the child to the loving parents, arrest the junkie mother.

How could you resist Freeman's silky voice? Baby has to go with him!

    Emm... Cheers.

If some spoilsport considers my previous suggestion, although entertaining, unethical, then I would suggest she goes back to her mother. You can't go round stealing children because you think their mother is unfit. Call child services let them intervene and find the best solution.
And I believe thats what happened in the movie I'm not sure it's been a while since I seen it. Although Morgan Freeman as your auld boy, how kick ass would that be!

Extremely bad ass. Seen him in A History of Violence? Absolutely bad-ass as they come.

Oh yeah, and in Appaloosa? "You afraid to die?" - "I ain't afraid." - "Good, 'cos you go first."

He's probably even more bad ass than Michael Ironside in A History of Violence the highest accolade any bad ass would hope to receive.

I would have left the child with morgan freeman. Would have been a far better quality of life for the child

    Ed Harris sucks cóck.
I'm sick of seeing him in movies where he's
supposed to be the bad guy and then turns around and becomes a half-assed good guy.
He was grand in The Rock but jeez..the same role in National Treasure 2...c'mon
It's gotten to the point where any film I see he's in I know exactly how he'll turn out..

I think Ed Harris is great to be honest. Solid actor who generally plays interesting roles.

A bad film with good moments. The ending was beyond ludicrous.

Harris, however, is as always, outstanding. Even when he's playing an ar$ehole (Glengarry Glen Ross), he's a badass ar$ehole.

Great movie alright but the ending was complete PC bull****. At the end of the day what matters is what's best for the child. Sure the drugie was her biological Mother but she also posed a significant threat to the kid therefore she should have been allowed stay with Freeman.

I do believe the girlfriend said something about explaining the situation to the girl when she had grown up and whether Affleck would be able to live with it. In this case I severely doubt the kid would have been all too happy about it. :o
