Spanish Airline Air Comet To File For Creditor Protection

MADRID (Dow Jones)--Spanish airline Air Comet Tuesday said it will file for protection from creditors and lay off all of its staff after an attempt to sell the struggling carrier failed.

In a statement, Air Comet's parent company Grupo Marsans SA said a London High Court has constrained Air Comet from using any of its air planes and ordered the company not to sell tickets. All flights have been suspended.

No! I do not think MOL will be laughing. This was a longhaul operator and MOL is fully aware of the poblems of running a longhaul operation. Did he not state that a Ryanair longhaul opperation would need an expensive business class to have any chance of profit.

He says he still wants to do it but he's waiting for some cheaper longhaul planes.

Some people think it's a nice fleet of green and white A330s he's waiting for.

switching to airbus now? whats that about.. why exactly do ryanair only have 737-800 air craft anyway??

Ryanair will remain as they are. However the mooted plan is to start-up a new airline as part of the Ryanair group.

The name RyanAtlantic has been used as its title. This airline would have no frills longhaul economy class (think JetStar, Oasis, Air AsiaX) coupled with an expensive luxurious Business Class (think Virgin Atlantic) The Business class would be cheaper than BA/AA/EI/VS/LH but would ensure the flight is break even thus allowing the airline to offer EUR20 tickets (+taxes, charges, meals, bags, check-in,drinks,loo tokens, movies, internet) in the Economy section.

Back OT- Just looking at wiki. They only had 4 A330s with 70+ orders. Thats a bit strange. Parent Company Grupo Marsans had ordered 4 A380,of which 2 were for AirComet.
