    Hi,
The following image shows how my front bumper has got damaged on one side.

I was wondering if I would be better off go straight to a body repair place or if I would be better off buy the part online (eg. on micksgarage.ie) and then bring it in to get it fitted. Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

The new part will come pre-painted (primed) so you are going to have to get it painted anyway whether you buy it yourself or a body shop buys it.

Alternatively you could try and find a bumper from an Astra of the same colour in a scrap yard and fit that.

Cool thanks. I had forgotten about the painting - I thought you might be able to order them in different colours!

It's not urgent so I might go to one or two body repair places and see what they say.

    Thanks again.

I'd try the scrapyard route, save a few pound, find a decent enough
replacement. Bought one recently enough for my own car last
month €70 form Kinsella's just across from the Red Cow.

OP - Are you sure there's no damage behind the bumper?

No I don't thinkso anyway. It was in the snow and it slid slowly into a ditch. It drives fine anyway and isn't making a noise etc.

I will bring it in somewhere today anyway but is there anything I should look for?

check the bumper reinforcers and retainers behind the bumper to see if they are bent in. also, check any plastic brackets that hold the bumper in place, you might need some push in clips too.

    hope this helps

You would be foolish not to look for a used bumper of correct colour for your car. You will save hundreds probably. The used one might even work out a better colour match due to fading etc

Excellent - thanks for all the replies - will try and track down a second hand front bumper for an astra.
