iPod Touch playing mp4s

Does the iPod touch play ALL mp4 files?

Have you ever converted an avi you've downloaded to mp4 and it hasn't worked on the Touch?

Does the Touch have auto shutdown?

Thanks, looking into getting a Touch

edit: actually, one more question, it probably shouldn't be in this forum but whatever. Is there any mp3/video player out there that will play and video file type?

I don't imagine it will play all MP4 files, since MP4 is only a "container format". It doesn't tell you how the data is encoded, only how it's packaged. To work on an iPod, the MP4 would need to contain video encoded in H.264 (a.k.a. x264), and audio encoded in AAC. I'm not certain these are all that the iPod Touch (or iPhone) supports, but if you see those, and the resolution is not too high, you should be OK. Or get Handbrake if it doesn't work.

The iPod Touch has auto-standby, which uses very little power. You don't usually shut it down entirely because it takes at least 30 seconds to boot up.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
