Balla Deflector feed

The Balla Deflector System in Co. Mayo seems to have swapped their feed over from off air analogue from Brougher Mt. nr. Enniskillen to free to air satellite on Astra 28.2 east. The Nicam and the teletext have vanished. Anyone associated with this know if they are going to revert back to the analogue terrestrial feed? No Nicam and moreover no teletext is annoying and the only reason I bother with an aerial to receive from Balla.

The deflector system on Farnaught Hill serving Westport and surrounding areas has been doing this for a couple of years now. Also don't forget teletext has gone from ITV bar the holiday section since December 15th.

The Westport deflector used to take its feed from Balla.

Im suprised Balla changed to satellite. I was talking to someone who knows them a while back and asked why they still taking a terrestrial feed and was told they "didnt believe in" satelite and that the terrestrial signal at the Balla site was fairly good (some phrase about "a rusty nail" was used)

Maybe theres an RTE DTT test from somewhere causing interference tio Brougher though I cant think of any off the top of my head that would

Interesting to know that. Perhaps the loss of teletext and nicam stereo sound never occurred to them?

I had heard indeed that the off air signal from Brougher was very good at their receive site. Maybe the high pressure and current weather has caused a lot of co channel interference or the snow has lead to a degradation of the signal from Brougher. It would be interesting to know if anyone knows the reason why and is it just temporary otherwise Ill be taking down my huge Group A aerial. I cant see point of re broadcasting a sat feed, youd be better off puttin up a dish and gettin better pictures and stereo sound, nt to mention the interactivity if using a sky or freesat box.

Brougher mt analogue off air feed has been restored to the Balla deflector system in Co. Mayo, since 3rd week in Dec it had been taking a FTA sat feed off 28.2 east. NICAM and analogue teletext now available again albeit at the expense of reduced picture quality. The signal up there must be weather dependent to some extent,
