Anyone know the name of the rhododendron - 20 feet tall, cerise flowers, currently coming into bloom. They seem to have been common in big old gardens and estates. There is one at the side of the southern link road in Cork, between the Mahon and Rochestown exits, heading west.

Could it be Rhododendron Cynthia? That grows to about 20 feet - but I didn't think it flowered in the northern hemisphere until early summer.

Actually this might be useful for you - here's a list of tall rhododendrons... It has pictures with it, so hopefully you'll recognise the one you want.
