Hi. I started to get some pain in my gum last few days..its right where i had a tooth out 6-7 years ago...its in a gap just in front of my wisdom molar..so im thinking the wisdom tooth may be moving and pushing this thing up through the skin.(like a new tooth would when growing)..whatever it is its like glass..horriblely annoying pain. i've started to tug and prod (and dribble!) at it which i know is a mistake, especially with the holidays coming...would it be a piece of cartlige or something from the old tooth?..i've had this before.. Cos if it is im gona tug it till i pass out!

Little bit of bone or tooth maybe, these come to the surface over the years, if you cant get it out with a little gentle prodding get a dentist to do it for you. Very annoying I know.

thanks for that.. would it be bone from the old tooth or maybe the wisdom tooth? its quite close to the wisdom tooth..going to the dentist would be the obvious thing to do..i cant stand the dentist in fairness my face would have to be hanging off to go for a check up..

if a tip of a root fractures during extraction, it sometimes causes more trouble to chase it than to leave it. as fitz said, it can take years to work their way to the surface. the annoying thing is, it's probably tiny. you'd wonder how the hell it can be so awkward!
