I got this text message from ChorusNTL(aka UPC): -
Good News!ChorusNLT has increased your braodband speed to 8MB. Unplug your modem from the power supply, plug it back in and youll have faster broadband. Thank you.

I now have faster broadband (well downloading at least).

Did you express interest in upgrading the speed Elmo? I thought to qualify for the speed increase you must commit to a further 12 months contract.

    Anyone else get the txt?

That's alright, what package were you previously on? I wonder if it's the lower packages only thet they are upgrading. I'm on 10mb already.

I was on 3MB at first but it seemed to be up at 5MB most of the time so I might have been on 6MB.

According to my bill I am on the UPC Broadband Light. Which they don't seem to offer anymore.

There speeds are going up from 3mb 10mb 20mb to 5mb 15mb 30mb on january the 4th as far as I know is this what your talking about ? Or are there people already seeing there speeds increasing?

People who were on the older packs that don't exist anymore and been bumped up a bit.

2Mb broadband lite or something I may be wrong about the speed but that is all.

20Mb is still the fastest until next month.

AFAIK: if you are on an older package, ComReg will not allow the Teleco company put you on to one of their newer options without your expressed desire to move.

Basically older customers of NTL and Chorus cannot have their price packages changed as this is the result of ComReg.

Hence companies will try and provide similar packages across older and newer packages. They are basically asking us in around about way, why not change your contract up to 10MB since you now have 8MB. Thus we are on a new 12 month contract and a new service contract.
