Just a heads up, that the guys behind the British NOGI championships will be running a similar tournament in St Andrews College Booterstown on Saturday 13th March 2010. There will be preregistration, multiple weights and experience categories and if the feedback from the British NOGI comp is anything to go by it will be a great day. Im just facilitating the event but I will post more details when I have them.

This together with the NI open, the Sapo tournament in February and another Informed Performance comp means that there is one a month for the first 4 months. I will also be running the annual pro team event in May.

So there is 5 reasons to stuff yourself and go up several weight categories over xmas! :D

Just FYI for anyone interested. I have moved the Informed Performance comp back a month to April to accomodate this.

I think this is great. What we're going to do is have a mini competition in the gym, sort of a league table of competitions where we get points for every event entered, where we come in them etc. etc. and have an in house prize too. For us because we're jim jam players too we have:
    Jan- NI Open
Feb- Sapo event, Dublin BJJ Open
    March- Nogi Champs
    April- Informed Performance Subs 3
    May- NG team Event.

So 6 competitions in 5 months! I'm chuffed to bits at this. Like a lot of people I wanted more comps and this is like a full season!

Its good to see we have so many BJJ/Grappling competitions scheduled throughout the Year.

would be a good idea to keep these Competition tournaments on a main Calendar (Website), for all competitor's & Organizers . Therefore we dont have any clashes of events.

maybe .. BJJ.IE , as a central resource for BJJ Comp's throughout the year.

Great to see so many competitions coming up.

A great indication of the growth of the sport.

Fight.ie have just added one. And we've had one on www.mmaireland.com for years. Usually up to date.

That was more in reference to BJJ/Grappling Tournaments National & International rather than MMA events, Shane. but noted. Good to have a schedule calendar of BJJ/Tournies throughout the year ,including as mentioned Euro's/Seni's/Bristol Open/British Open & Irish National Opens.

See what you mean man. If it helps; the sub tournaments are all on the list. BJJ.ie is sometimes up to date too.

    hey all,

www.Bjj.ie is the resource we should all be using now. The guys have put a lot of time and effort into it to make it the go-to site for all the grappling tournaments, seminars and clubs for the sports of BJJ and Submission Wrestling in Ireland. It's run by grapplers for grapplers, has no affiliation to any club, association or organisation and is for the good of the sports.

The only thing is though, like a lot of things, it will only work if people contribute to it. I've been down a similar path before and it can be frustrating putting in all the work if no one takes the time to email you their events. Em, actually, just thinking there I haven't yet emailed them about the Mendes brother's seminars in February but I'm sure you all get my point! I know things can be busy but if coaches maybe gave someone in their club responsibility for getting the stuff to bjj.ie then this could work better.

Fantastic year for BJJ in Ireland in store! I won't be able to get to the Europeans but I'd love to.

Is it not for purely BJJ mate?

No. The lads who run it also compete in the Submission Wrestling tournaments around Ireland. For example they had our last two tournaments on it.

Cool that they changed it. They had a policy of BJJ only. Have a mail from them somewhere. Great that it's going to include sub-wrestling/no-gi too. Makes a lot more sense.

Finally managed to prove who I am and got my boards account up and running again. :D

Due to clashes with various UK competitions the guys behind the Dubin event have decided to move it to Saturday April 10th in St Andrews College.

    Weigh ins at 10am
    Rules at 1030am
    Competition at 11am

More information when I have it in the next day or so.

I have been informed that Online Registration will open this Friday, there will be NO registration on the day. Ill post up weight categories / experience, weigh ins info then as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭The Shane

Where is this online registration taking place?

    Shane, The

    ps. I'm still fat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

    Most likely here

    http://www.grabandpull.co.uk/

and no Im not sending you to an adult site ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

    Experience divisions will be

    - 1 yr Beginner
    -3yrs Intermediate
    +3yrs Advanced

Weights will be as per IBJJF site including the gi even though this is nogi.

    57.5kg, 64kg, 70kg, 76kg, 82.30kg, 88.30kg, 94.30kg, 100.50kg, +100.50kg and Absolute

Weighin will take place at the mat before your first match. This is why online registration so important so that you know when your division is.
And for those of you who havent been to this type of tournament before, if you dont make weight before your first match, you are dq'ed. You are not upgraded to the next weight division.

Ill post here when registration is open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,655 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

if there are few people in the divisions are you going to combine them? or are you going to stay strictly to the weights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

I would be in favour of combining to avoid the turn up and collect a medal situation. But the lads from the UK running the tournament will have the last say.

Can someone clarify the date for this? Noticed a post on EFN saying it's now taking place on the 24th. (clicky). That true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Due to circumstances with regard to the venue beyond my control, I have had to change the date to April 24th. Everything else will stay the same, online reg up asap. The lads have been very busy with the London BJJ open which was on yesterday.

    another q for dave..

historically..do many people compete in a -57kg category in sub comps?

mite have one guy interested and yes he is under fed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 237 ✭✭stevemc01

In the first Informed Performance tournament last July we had 1 guy from our club who fought at that weight. The only 2 competitors at the weight were female.

Cant remember numbers from any other competitions as its the competition he fought in and I generally only take notice (numbers wise) of the divisions our guys compete in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Entries are coming in guys, but please dont think you can turn up on the day as people do for comps over here even when they say pre registration only. THIS IS PREREGISTER ONLY, its the way most US and UK tournaments are run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭crosdad

how do you register on the site? do you have to pay online?

that kinda sucks if u dont have a credit card, like myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

Yes I suppose it does, but its the way 90% of tournaments are run in the UK and USA. It means you dont have people saying they are going to turn up and not turning up after you have done the brackets, and/or turning up when not saying they are, again having done the brackets or divisions. It makes for a much smoother operation and easier to budget for rental of hall, mats, trophies etc

as a runner of tournaments, I approve of this method.

I'll be there in some capacity. Just as a coach right now but if my leg clears up, as a slightly portly competitor!

"We will follow IBJJF restrictions as well."

Can you clarify from which category of restrictions? As the restrictions between Blue belt, purple and Brown/Black differ considerably.

In other words, are you applying the Black Belt restrictions according to IBJJF rules for all divisions?

Normally I do it like this.

    White restrictions: beginners
    Blue and Purple restrictions: Intermediate
    Brown and Black restrictions: Advanced

    Gus,

Just so you know, I signed up for this on March 29th. -82.3kg Intermediate and had to pay £25 (€28.56 according to my PayPal records). Small bit unfair on those of us who paid before the scheduled "Early registration date" and are now being charged a fiver more than latecomers. Or you've made a typo and I'm posting this for no reason. Looking forward to the comp anyway, it's been too long since I was on the mats competively.

Also, expect a few hungover students, UCD finishes up on April 23rd. That said, a hangover will probably aid in making weight :pac:
